(Marco's POV)
She was quiet. Which was unusual for how she was on days like this. She could take in any gloomy day and easily change it with her mere presence. But her usually joyful mood was lost to thoughtful silence and distracted glances to the buildings and people we passed. I had a feeling something was up, but I didn't wish to pressure her into talking about something she didn't want to talk about. Maybe it would come up some time later? But she said nothing more as we left the school grounds and made our way home.
(General POV)
"A break?" Star cried.
A week had passed since that gloomy day. Although that day was long passed her, the thoughts and vibes had still lingered. Discomfort always came to gnaw at her if she ever chose to look back on it for too long, which was enough to convince her to keep her mind from wandering back to it.
However, that was the only thing she could think of with the news that her best friend had just shared with her.
"You guys literally just started dating a week ago! How could she want a break now?" Star shook her head in disbelief.
Marco shrugged, his head hung low as he held a thoughtful gaze towards his lap. "I don't know," he sighed, "but it's okay."
This frustrated Star. Okay? He's trying to be positive about this, totally understandable. But wasn't the suggestion of 'a break' almost like saying, 'I might break up with you soon'?
"I don't want her to feel trapped," Star's train of thought was derailed. She refocused her gaze back onto Marco, only to find him slowly pacing back and forth around her room.
"I want her to feel safe and comfortable with me. Not like I'm some sort of cage keeping her wings strapped to her side and preventing her from flight!"
Star was getting those poetic vibes from her best friend, and she needed to 'prevent that from taking flight'. But before she could say anything, Marco leaned on the edge of her bed beside her. "I just want her to be happy," He thought aloud.
'Ugh,' Star sighed, 'I just want you to be happy' She thought as she felt her heart drop.
She held his hand, more to offer comfort, and gently squeezed it. Marco glanced towards Stars hand holding onto his and felt warmth swell inside his chest. "Don't worry, Marco! I'm sure after a day, or even a few hours, you guys will be talking to each other again like none of this ever happened. It'll pass by faster than you can count to three!" Star smiled and wrapped her arm around her best bestie. Marco took his best friends embrace in blissfully as he offered her a hopeful smile.
"One, two-"
The vibration of a phone startled the two.
Star and Marco looked at each other confused.
"Ha..." Star gave an uneasy smile, "Like I said, faster than you can count to three! One...Two-" The vibration of the phone interrupted her again.
Star quickly checked her phone and clapped it shut once she found she hadn't recieved any calls. "Marco, check your phone. It's probably you."
Marco brought out his phone to check it, at once, his eyes widened. He quickly twisted around to show Star his phone screen, only to reveal that Jackie was calling him.
Star had to admit, she was good at this matchmaking bizz, but this was too good. Star shook those thoughts away as she hurriedly whispered, "Answer it, doofus!"
Marco silently agreed and answered it with haste. Slowly leaning off of the side of her bed and stalking towards the balcony, he held his phone to his ear with both hands at first, but then held it with one as he grew more comfortable. He shot a nervous smile back to Star in which she replied with a two thumbs up.
Star smiled happily as she watched her best friend disappear onto the balcony. She fell back into her bed, thoughtfully waiting for Marco to return. "Three."
