ALICE AND STEVE elegantly got off of the captains motorcycle, taking deep breaths as they looked towards the Smithsonian.

"Come on." Alice cooed softly to Steve, holding her hand out to him as she studied his hurt expression.

Steve gently wrapped his fingers around Alice's hand and gave her a sad smile before leading her inside.

Alice and Steve stood under the dimly lit exhibit that showed Captain America and his time through the war.

"The famous war hero, Captain America. Aka Steve Rogers." Alice said through her smile and gently rested her head on Steve's shoulder.

"A symbol to the nation. A hero to the world. The story of Captain America is one of honor, bravery and sacrifice." A robotic voice began a narration.

Alice glanced up at the captain as he listened to his life being told.

"Denied enlistment due to poor health, Steven Rogers was chosen for a program unique in the annals of American warfare. One that would transform him into the world's first super soldier."

Alice and Steve looked around as they listened and noticed a young boy staring wide eyed up at the captain.

Steve smiled and gently put his pointer finger to his lips, telling the boy to shh. Alice chuckled before the two walked a few feet away.

Suddenly, an old tape came to life, showing Steve and his men on the battlefield.

"In this rare footage, everyone's favorite warrior, Captain America..."

Steve led the brunette to a display case that held a mannequin that was wearing the captains old outfit, which brought a smile to his lips.

"Battle tested, Captain America and his Howling Commandos quickly earned their stripes. Their mission, taking down HYDRA, the Nazi rogue science division." The voice continued as the two walked further down the display.

That's when Alice seemed to loose her breath completely.

"Best friends since childhood, Bucky Barnes and Steven Rogers were inseparable on both schoolyard and battlefield. Barnes is the only Howling commando to give his life in service of his country."

Alice swallowed the lump in her throat and tears immediately began flooding to the surface. A gently squeeze to the brunettes hand made her heart constrict.

"I - I miss him Steve. I miss him so much." She hiccuped as she stared at the clean cut Bucky on the screen.

The man that stole her heart and made her love someone more than she thought anyone could. The man that would be on her mind every single day.

"I miss him too, Alice." Steve said before clearing his throat - in attempts to keep the tears away.

"I don't think I'll ever be able to move on. He was my everything. I'm going to head out, I'll meet you later." She whispered softly before taking one last glance at Bucky's exhibit and heading towards the exit.

Steve didn't even bother to stop the emotional girl - he knew exactly where she was going.

"Hey Buck.." Alice's fragile voice flowed through the air as she gently sat down in the grass.

The small headstone that laid in front of her had 'James Buchanan Barnes' carved into it, along with 'beloved friend and husband.'

Alice and Bucky never got to tie the knot but that didn't change the brunette's feelings or perspective.

He was her husband - her forever. And that would never change.

Obviously this was an empty grave since as far as Alice knew, his body was over a cliff in freezing water across the world.

After finding out about Bucky's death, her own mind tortured her day in and day out. She wanted to see him one last time.

Alice was able to get into people heads and that's exactly what she did when she found out how Bucky passed once she was saved by SHIELD.

She watched the love of her life die right in front of her, over and over again - from Steve's perspective.

The pain in her heart never ceased as she watched his hand's grip loosen and his body drop.

Every time Bucky fell - Alice did too.

Steve refused to let her see what really happened until Alice took the memory by force. She had tackled the captain down in a fit of rage and explored his head - getting hit with a flood of memories.

Many of them were happy, but the pain filled ones masked them greatly. All Alice could feel and see was Bucky falling and the horror Steve felt as he watched his best friend fall to his death. She felt the grief afterwards.

She even got a memory of the two talking about her.

"Steve - if anything happens to me.. please take care of Alice - please. She is everything to me and she'll need you. I love her more than anything."

"I won't let anything happen to her." Steve told his best friend.

But little did he know how everything would change.

Alice would be taken.

Steve would be lost in the ocean.

Alice, later on, would be tortured by HYDRA and used as a lab rat for over 50 years. Each day she would be torn to shreds only to heal and repeat.

But thankfully fate gave the poor captain and nurse a break. They were saved.

They were reunited - but it would never be the same without Bucky Barnes by their side.
