Effie was gentle about waking us up today. That a first. I wondered why, and then I remembered that today was the real start of the Hunger Games.

                I was sent to a transport with Isis. At the Hover craft, Tarran waited for us. Three ladders dropped down. I climbed on to one and froze in place. Isis did the same. Tarran didn’t freeze though.

                They lifted Isis and I up onto the hover. A man in a white coat took a needle and poked my arm with it. I rolled my eyes mentally, a tracker. They had somehow missed a tribute one year, and he had snuck around at night, killing off the half the other tributes without the Capitol knowing.

                After that, we were escorted to a room where we ate. Isis and I ate as much as we could so that in the games, we wouldn’t starve completely.

                The windows blackened. We were close to the arena. When we stopped we were transported underneath the arena.

                Tarran waited for us. He handed us each a pair of clothes. We slipped them on and hugged him. We knew we might not see him again.

                He held up his finger and dug around in his pocket. He brought out our Mocking Jays! He takes them and put them around our necks.

                He turned us around and smiled weakly. “You girls go out there and win. Please. I honestly think you can do it.”

                We nodded.

                “we swear.” Isis said, hugging him.

                “30 seconds.” A voice announced.

                Tarran walked us over to the transport tubes.

                Isis stepped in and before I stepped in mine I turned to Tarran. I gave him a huge hug. “Thank you.” I whispered.

                “You’re welcome. Stay away from the cornucopia. You two would be killed.”

                I nodded, as did Isis.

                “15 seconds.”

                I stepped in the tube and the door closed.

                “10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1.”

                We were lifted up. Up, up, up. Until we reached the arena. It was a dense, swampy area. Trees and wetland. Great!

                The screen above the cornucopia counted off the minute. Starting at 60.

                30. 29. 28. 27. 26. 25. 24. 23. 22. 21. 20.”

                Halfway through. I looked at Isis. Her eyes were trained on two back packs that were close to us.

                10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1/

                The buzzer went off.

                Isis and I ran after the bags. We picked them up and ran off. I noticed that Rani, Flora, Logan, and Carlisle had done the same.

                We ran into the swamp. Immediately, Rani had Flora climb on her back. She still ran at the same pace though. That girl was strong!

                We came up to a cave close to the water about a mile in. we decided to camp here. it would provide great cover and the farther in it goes means that we could hide lots easier.
