Camila was facing the mirror and staring at herself for a while now. Her hair was perfected in a bun, her make-up was light but it still made her look like a princess and her dress... Her long, white wedding dress looked like it was specifically made for her and only her. And still, she didn't see herself as the utterly happy bride everyone expected her to be.
– What's wrong mija? – Ally asked her when she saw the sad glint in her friend's chocolate orbs.
– Nothing Ally, don't worry, I think I'm just nervous – she dodged the question immediately. – Ahw, that's normal, but you have no reason to be. David loves you to death – the older woman reassured her.
Truth to be told, the brunette had no doubts about her fiance, she never did. She knew the boy is a good man, the perfect husband material and he was very much in love with Camila since he glanced at her way. And Camila loved him too, she really did, that's why she is standing there in her gorgeous white dress, that is why she said yes when the boy asked her hand in marriage, that is why she could envision a future with him.
But she knew she could never love him as much as he loved her. The Latina tried her best to be the woman he deserved and it probably seemed like she is. He probably thought she is. But Camila knew that there were those moments when she let her facade fall and she was just lucky David was a bit blind to catch on.
First, when they started dating the girl was always too busy to meet up, answered his messages hours later and when they finally could meet she usually cut those dates short with a lame excuse. David thought the brunette is just hard to get which just motivated him more.
Time flew by and Camila realized she actually enjoyed the boy's company. He understood her sense of humor, he knew her quirks, he was always polite, charming and he was waiting as long as he had to. He was god damn perfect and Camila knew that. She also knew he will never be enough.
David opened up about himself pretty soon in their relationship while Camila remained mysterious. When it came to her past, her boyfriend barely knew anything personal. Of course he knew where she went to school, who she went there with, what sports and instruments she played, he even was introduced to Dinah, the one and only evidence that the brunette actually had a past. They were childhood best friends ride or dies and probably platonic soulmates.
The Polynesian liked David but somehow she never approved their relationship wholeheartedly although she never said a single word about it. The couple could feel her apprehension, David just didn't know the reason why she had it. Camila did.
After eight months of dating, the brunette accepted that this is it for her and for the first time she felt she might be happy. She settled for a more friendly, I appreciate you kind of love and she was sure she made the right decision. She was content, she was safe, she was loved. On their three year anniversary when David descended to one knee and presented the velvet box with the sparking ring, Camila – as expected – said yes.
David was too nervous and then too happy to notice that one second which passed in silence, the flash of hesitation in the chocolate orbs, the quick gulp and big intake of air. Even if he noticed he thought that it was probably just because the question surprised her girlfriend. It wasn't surprise though. It was a second of weakness from Camila's part because in that second, when David kneeled in front of her, with his sky blue eyes swirling with affection and gentleness and he poured his heart out in his speech, in that second Camila would have gave everything away just to switch. To switch the blue irises for green, the short brown hair to long, luscious black, his tanned, muscular body to a pale, curvy one. She wished that the deep voice asking her to marry would sound a bit more feminine and raspy.
