Chapter 11 Edited
I ripped down everything from the compartment in the wardrobe and I bent down amongst it all. I rushed through envelopes containing bill's, pay receipts, A letter from his grandmother, A letter from an unknown "Sandra" and a page out of a news paper but no college fund info.
''Anything yet?'', Johnny asked from behind me sitting on the bed after finishing rooting through the bed stand.
''Nothing'', I said and I felt sick, what if we couldn't find it. All we had was a bank card with no details. We could only take out 700 dollars a day but we could leave on 700 if we could find the pin number.
''This is hopeless'', Johnny said and he closed the drawer.
It was weird being here in Cameron's room, almost as if I had forgotten about him. We knew it wasn't going to be long until he was home as the noise level downstairs had increased dramatically in the past 15 minutes.
The crackle of the papers below me as I stood up brought me back to reality very quickly as I looked up at Johnny's tired and forlorn face.
''Why are you sticking by me?'', I asked Johnny and he looked at me confused.
''What do you mean?'', He asked sitting up on the bed.
''It's not like we owe each other anything. This isn't your baby and we are not together.'', I noted realizing there had to be an ulterior motive.
''Kira, you're like a sister to me'', He said regretting that wording ''I sister I love differently'', he said avoiding eye contact.
''Well your about to run away with me, to Texas'', I said a little frantic at the thought.
''and I don't plan on coming back here, ever if I can help it'', I scowled at his seemingly unaffected face.
He shrugged and shook his head slightly.
''Paisley is growing up, she's been through a lot and she has Milo, which puts him out of the question of your worries. My mother, she is independent never relied on anyone, I love that about her and she will be fine. She knows you are not going to stay is this godforsaken town much longer. Your parents have each other, what else is there to worry about'', Johnny said he seemed delighted about this new start; he was almost glowing, metaphorically of course.
Summer popped into my head at that moment and Rose. My two friends whom I had just began to see a needy side of. I wanted to help Rose and cure Summer but I'm not a miracle worker. I don't want to leave Paisley and Milo is relying on her and she's so young. I am selfish. I am leaving for me. I will have this baby; pass it onto someone and then what. I have no purpose.
''No'', I answered quickly putting my fast thoughts aside.
I began to walk towards Johnny listening to the creak of the floor boards. *Thump, Thump...Epee* the noise changed as I hit my third step. I looked up at Johnny. The floor board was smaller than the rest and placed exactly at the end of the bed.
''Johnny come here'', I said keeping my eyes on the floor board.
''What?'', he asked as he landed beside me.
I dropped to my knees and pulled at the floorboard. It wouldn't budge. But I was so sure, there was something different. I pulled again harder this time only hurting me. I stood up fast and looked quickly along the top of the dresser for something I could use to ply up the floor board when I heard Johnny gasp.
I looked around and Johnny had the small floorboard in his hands and where the board had been was pages, diaries and other various things. He looked at me speechless. I just smiled to myself and Cameron lives on.
