Chapter 34 - Part 2

"What did he say now?" I asked. Mason had grown quiet, which scared me. He and Beckham were communicating so quickly before.

"He... Uh..." Mason trailed off, concentrating hard and scratching the back of his head anxiously.

"He what?" I demanded. Is he okay?

"He isn't responding."

"Mason..." I whispered, looking to the ground. I didn't want to know the answer to my next question. "What does that mean?"

"I don't know, Lyn," he replied. "But he's close."

"Close means nothing in this labyrinth!" I shouted. "Where is he?"

"We have to find our way back to the axis, he was in that direction," Mason mumbled, taking in his surroundings. We were stuck in a square, grey room - the first room so far without a colored wall, besides the jet black walls of the axis. They were simply... Grey stone. The lack of color was worrying, as I didn't know whether that meant I was closer to Link or farther away; it was only this one room. What significance could that hold?

That doesn't matter right now, Lyn. You need to find Beckham first, make sure he's alright. "The axis is that way, right?" I asked. Mason nodded, leading the way out of the room. "Do you think-"

We both froze at the sound of stone on stone, a deafening grinding sound. The ground shook, knocking us to the ground. Mason shouted, but I couldn't hear him over the rumbling, and we became farther and farther away from each other. That's when I realized the source of the sound - the walls were moving. One of the walls beside me split open, allowing another wall to move across the hallway and effectively cut me off from Mason. I cried out his name, but to no avail; the walls kept moving until I was isolated in the grey-walled room.

Author's Note!

Yes, guys, I know. This is like... The shortest chapter EVER. But it's because it's building up to the big scene. There will probably be two more short chapters, then I'll come back with a crazy action packed chapter! I promise it will be longer than these have been lately, but it's supposed to feel short and cut off. I hope y'all are still enjoying this!!! Love you all!
