The Mistake

I laughed as we were lapped on the running track for the fifth time, the cold air biting our faces, no matter how much faster we tried to jog. We always managed to be last, the ones who were mocked, jeered at as we crossed the finish line hours after everyone else. Still, this was just a practice, and we all stopped at the same time to get ready for the next lesson. I stared forlornly at the bushes lining the field as we passed, wishing that we didn't have to do PE. A silhouette moved in the undergrowth. I stopped dead, I stared into the wild undergrowth lining the school field.
"Jed! What are you doing?!" Called Alexa, only realising that I'd stopped a few meters back from where she was.
Gasping for breath I stuttered "The-the-there was a-"
"Jed! What's wrong?"
I started forward, with Alexa in pursuit, pushing aside branches and leaves until I got to the part where I had seen it.
That was the point when I realised that this was pointless, and dangerous. But the thought had hit me too late. Then... a blindfold was roughly tied around my eyes and face. My suspicions must have been correct, but now i had no idea why I'd got tangled up in this. I'd dragged Alexa into this without thinking, compunction or preamble, and now she also had to pay for my mistakes. That was my final thought before everything went black....
