Chapter 33

I have absolutely nothing to do today, which is probably why I didn't wake up until 2:30. Slacker. I brushed my teeth and then took shower. I stayed in there until all the hot water was gone because I had a lot on my mind. I got out, dried off and got dressed. I put on camo cargo shorts, a black nike sports bra and black nike socks. No need for a shirt since I'm not goin' anywhere.

I pulled out the birthday cards my mom gave me and sat in the living room.

I opened them, read the cards and counted the money. 2100$ from my parents, 200$ from Aunt Cynthia and 300$ from my Uncle Craig. Damn, I love them. I gotta thank them later.

Knock knock!

I got up and opened the door.

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

"Hey, what are you doing here?" Briana asked.

"I just wanted to stop by."

I was lying. I needed to talk to her about Monique. I walked in and sat in the living room. She had money laying all over the table and it just looked suspicious.

"Damn girl! You hustlin'?" I asked laughing.

"Nah nigga, that's birthday money," she laughed.

"Damn," I said trailing off.

"Something's wrong, isn't it?" she asked looking straight at me.

"You know how you told me to protect Monique?"

"Yeah," she said slowly.

"I don't understand how I'm supposed to do that, when she basically defends Troy all the time. He's still hitting her Bri, and I think it's getting worse."

"How do you know?"

"After we left your house the day you left, we went out to eat. He came in and dragged her out of the restaurant and after that day we hadn't seen her for a week. And when we did see her, she had a black eye and she could barely walk. She lied and said she got hurt in dance, but we knew she was lying."

Just explaining all of this was making me mad all over again.

"She keeps saying she's gonna handle it, but she hasn't said anything yet," I said trying to calm down.

"And she's not gonna say anything. We have to get her to leave him," she suggested.

"She said she can't."

"Because he said he would kill the person she loves the most," I said trying not think about it.

I nodded.

"Fuck him. We gotta help her," she said. She didn't even seem bothered by what I just told her.

"But what ab-"

"Listen, I'm not afraid of Troy. He's all bark and no bite. He won't do shit. He just wants to scare her."

"So what are we gonna do?" I asked getting up and walking to the door.

"Let me talk to Monique first, then I'll let you know," she said walking behind me.

I gave her a hug and left. I really just want Monique to be okay to be honest. And Bri doesn't even seem phased by this whole situation. As much as I want her to leave him and be safe, I was afraid something would go wrong. I'm sure Briana will figure it out though.
