Avery drove me home while holding my hand, keeping me calm. I focused on his heart beat and tried to match mine with his, the thing was it was extremely difficult. He kept changing his pace making us laugh, which only sent my heart beat faster.
I sighed in content when he pulled up in front of my apartment. “so when’s the big day?” He asked squeezed my hand.
“What?” I asked looking at him like he was crazy.
He laughed, “When do they get here?”
I smiled slightly, “Oh, uh Friday.”
“Oh.” He smiled a little but looked out the window.
“Avery?” I asked and he turned to face me.
“Is something wrong?”
“No.” He chuckled, “I just...I was going to ask you, if you wanted to hang out this weekend but you’re busy.” he shrugged
I smiled because he sounded so nervous, “Yeah I am.” I looked away from his face as I continued “Maybe we could do something during the week?”
“Yeah, that sounds like fun.” He said and without looking at him I could tell he was smirking. I bit my lip to hide my smile, “So tomorrow?”
I laughed, “Sounds great. I’ll see you tomorrow then, at school.”
“At school.” he nodded and I finally looked at him, his eyes shining.
I walked into the apartment calling out Will’s name but he didn’t answer.
“Will?” I searched the entire house, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t worried because I was but I tried shrugging it off and went into my room to do homework.
I was looking down at my book thinking about Avery and how he made me feel. I should just cut it off but my heart and head hurt with just the thought so I shook it away.
Suddenly the front door burst open and I ran out to see who it was. I gaped as I looked at Will who was all bruised and bloody lying on the floor.
“Will?” I asked softly running up to him afraid to touch him. “Are you okay?”
He barely opened his eyes and whispered, “Lock the door.” Before he passed out.
Short, yes. But do you like it?
