It was small, but appeared to be a typical storage shed. Old furniture that was torn, and cardboard boxes were stacked in the corners. Nova shuffled mom over to the old couch.
"What the fuck is this, King?" Asked Liam.
"It's a storage unit."
"You expect us to sleep here?"
"Is your dad gonna know we're here?"
"My father doesn't know about this. Doubt he'll find us."
"How do I know this isn't a set up? What, we think we're safe and then BAM , your dad open fires on the place?"
"Look, I'm just trying to help."
"Why the fuck would you be helping us? Why are you all of a sudden an ally?
"Why can't you just appreciate what people do for you? I gave you a place to sleep and a bottle to piss in, what more do you fucking want?"
"Stop." Will interrupted.
"Why do you trust this asshole, Will?"
Clarke pushed past me and went outside, escaping Liam's bullshit.
"Look, Liam. You trust me, you trust Clarke."
"Will, listen. Here's what I'm thinkin'. We kidnap Clarke and offer him up."
"What? No! Enough kidnapping. No more of that. He wants his dad dead too. Either help or back off."
"You act like you don't need me."
"Enough." Nova said sternly, coddling our mother.
I went outside and closed the door behind me. Clarke was standing outside, looking out at the river.
"He's a dick."
"Not worried about your brother."
"What are you worried about?"
"My dad hurting you. Losing you."
"What's the plan, Clarke?" I asked.
"I don't know anymore. I just want this shit done with."
There was a pause.
"Well, what do heroes do in the movies?" Will asked.
"You think we're the heroes?"
"I mean, who else would it be?"
"Heroes don't sell drugs and murder people."
"Vigil Ante's then."
Clarke laughed lightly.
"Alright, Will. Vigil Ante's."
"And what do Vigil Ante's do to bad guys?"
"Put the bad guys in jail or kill them so they can't hurt people anymore."
"Then let's do it."
"We gotta find them and do just that."
"How do we find them?"
"They couldn't have gone far. Why would they? What are they after?"
"My dad." Will spoke.
"Are they persistent enough to break him out of jail?"
"I don't know. I still think we should run."
"Clarke. I can't leave them. And they aren't gonna stop until your dad is dead."
"Did they get the stuff they wanted? The money and disk?"
"I don't know man, I don't think so."
"Fuck. I don't know what's going to happen. But I'll keep you safe, Will."
Clarke reached for my hand.
"Whatever it takes."
