Chapter 23

"Alright Mom, I'll talk to him." I glanced at my fuming mate listening to her. "Becareful mom I love you." I hung up the phone preparing myself for my mate. I knew he could hear our whole conversation when I had called, but it was worse then I thought. I really wish I had walked outside now, oh well. I rubbed his arms trying to soothe him, but he wouldn't look at me. I could feel his anger like it was my own now. He was out for blood I just wasn't sure whose.

"I'll send Nigel and Dylan to pick them up in the morning." He murmured, I nodded in agreement.

Things in my old pack got bad apparently. Nate has been a very busy Alpha in all the worse ways according to my parents. He uses the women and childern to keep the men in line and if the step out of that line he makes an example with him. I shudder at some of the things my mom said has happened. The people I grew up with were being broken down. They might not have been the best pack, but they didn't deserve this.

"Hey, we will take care of this." Cody spoke softly pulling me in. " Hmm...." He stroked my cheek softly. "I like being bonded to you." He kissed the tip of my nose making me smile.

"And why is that?" I asked skeptically.

"Cause now I know exactly what your feeling." He pecked my lips. "There's no more hiding from me." I shook my head rolling my eyes at him. There was a knock on the door halting us. "Come in." Cody called.

Charles walked in not looking to happy, I could feel Cody's anxiousy as he watched his father and instantly knew something was wrong. They were communicating through their links and what ever was being discussed wasn't settling well with Cody.  I squeezed his hand reminding him that I can't hear them and he gave me a strained smile.

" Father we will discuss this further later." Cody practically growled out. Charles nodded before storming out and slamming the door behind him.

"What's going on, Cody?" I was confused by Charles actions.

"He isn't happy that I'm having people search through their home." He sighed at my confused face. "Alpha Stark had mentioned some rumours yesterday about my mother, I just want to be sure theres no truth to them."

"And if there is?" I questioned.

"Then I'll leave it for the pack to decide, since it'd mean she betrayed all of us."

I nodded and let us fall into silence as he held me once more. Everything around us seemed to be going wrong. How could we be able to hold on to eachother when nothing else seemed to be able to? If the rumours are true and we are forcused to go to war what does that mean? Will my friends be safe? My family? Now that we are mated what does that mean for us? I looked into Cody's face and knew most of all I was worried for this strong man. This whole thing with his mother has shaken him and it's unsettling to watch.

"Cody.... I want to join your pack officially...." I hesitated. He grinned the excitement returning to his eyes. "But I want Luke to join too."

His face fell. "No." He was angry, as to why I wasn't sure, but I could feel it.

"Cody....." I gave him my best puppy dog eyes.

He groaned, still looking unconvinced. " Why?" He asked changing tactics. "Why is this so important to you?"

"Because he's my friend." I reasoned.

"So?" He pushed. " Rachel and Darrel from your old pack were your friends. You didn't ask for them to join and you had known them for much longer." My eyes widened, the thought of bringing them here never even occured to me. Yet again everything had moved so fast......

"Cody, I know this is hard to hear but when I left I didn't have anyone else. He watched after me and protected me from other guys."Cody didn't look happy at the thought of other guys, but I continued. "When I didn't want to continue, he pushed me to take care of myself. Luke is loyal to me and is a good friend and I need that if I'm going to stay here. I need someone who won't take your side just because your the Alpha."

He frowned not understanding. "You have Max."

I groaned running my hand through my hair fustrated. "Yes, but Max isn't always around. Plus he has Stacy now to watch after. He deserves to be able to be happy with his mate."

Cody frowned at me. "You don't just want Luke in the pack. You want Luke a part of your personal gaurd." He saw the confirmation on my face and pulled away from me livid. "Fuck no." He shook his head violently. "I have a right to deny anyone I don't see fit to protect you and I refuse this, Julia." He was shaking ready to shift so I held my hand out for him to take. He grabbed my hand like it was his last life line.

" Cody, he is fit enough to protect me. He did it for monthes with no one else to help him while I was at my worse. He never pushed for anything other then friendship. I know it isn't the most orthodox thing, but it's a good choice." I fought.  He glared at me.  "Why won't you agree to this? I don't understand your issue."

"Julia he had you for monthes, alone. Who knows what could of happened." He huffed.

"He didn't do anything. Cody, this is plain and simple if you can't figure out how to get along with Luke then I have no reason to stay here." I crossed my arms challenging him. I waited for him to say something and he didn't so I walked out of the room slamming the door.

I heard the door open and close behind me, but I didn't stop. He's so pig headed some times it makes me just want to scream.

I reached the front door and looked back to see him following me from a short distance behind. I had the strangest feeling of deja voo as I glanced back at his silent form. Not knowing where I was going I started to jog in a random direction toward some houses. It didn't take long for us to hit a school. At sight of it I burst out in laughter. Cody now worried placed his hand on my back to steady me.

"Are you ok?" He sounded nervous as I wiped the tears from my eyes.

"I just realized this is like the first day we met." I glanced at him to see the realization dawn on him. "You were so pig headed..... You still are pig headed."

"Pig headed?" He questioned. I nodded grinning, he watched me for a second. I didn't need the bond to know his anger had dissipated. "Why is it every time I think we are doing better we end up fighting?" He thought out loud. I walked to him letting him embrace me.

"Cause your pig headed and don't listen?" I teased.

"And your emotional and don't have patience." He kissed my forehead.

I frowned at him. "I'm not emotional, I'm just passionate."

He laughed. "And I'm not pig headed, I'm just determined." He countered. I shook my head at him. "Can we just start this day over? I can't promise to get along with Luke, but can't we just not fight about it for now?" I looked into his desperate face and nodded. "Thank you." He kissed me on the lips and the once little sparks now felt like fireworks through the bond. I pulled back gasping for air. I smiled at him. "I wanted to take you somewhere." He looked at me shyly so I nodded and took his hand. We walked in silence with him guiding me through the streets. We reached what must be Downtown, there were lots of stores and even a few clubs. I smiled at the club called 'The Paw'.

"Where are we going?" I asked growing impatient.

"To a building." He smiled cryptically.

"Cody.." I whined.

"Come on Juls, Close your eyes now." I looked at him bewildered. We were in the middle of a crowd how was I to walk? He leaned down as if to answer my unspoken question. I climbed on his back and closed my eyes like I had been told. Then an idea formed and I leaned forward til my chin was on his shoulder.

"Cody, where are we going?" I asked softly. I felt him shiver underneath me.

"You'll see soon enough." I nipped his ear playfully. "Julia...." His voice sounded huskier all of a sudden. "Your eyes still closed?" He asked.

"Yes Cody." I whispered as kissed down his neck. I felt him shake his head at me, but I could feel his arousal through the bond.

"Alright Julia we are here." I opened my eyes and gasped.
