Fairytales are supposed to be happy. The prince meets a good-hearted, beautiful girl. They fall in love at first sight. They overcome evil, get married and live happily ever after. That's how it's supposed to go right?
But what if after spending some time together, the prince left the maiden where he met her? What if she find out she is pregnant after his leave and gives birth to a healthy daughter? What if the betrayed maiden decides to become a powerful sorceress?
Maybe if she didn't meet the handsome prince, she would have married a well-off guy who had fallen for her beauty. Maybe if I wasn't born, she might still be living with her uncle and aunt instead of being abandoned on the streets.
When I was very little I asked her,"mama, is it my fault you are like this?"
She caressed me and softly said, "No, honey. It's my fault that I'm like this. I shouldn't have been so easily strayed when I met your father. You, on the other hand, are the best thing that happened to me. You showed me what true love means."
"Do you love me?,"I asked, my voice rimmed with innocence and curiosity. Back then, I was always worried mother didn't like me.
"Of course, I love you. You, my love, taught me that true love exists. You are the sunshine of my life. Believe me when I say I would give up everything for you,"she swore.
I nodded, wrapping myself in the comfort of her promise and her humming voice. Seeking more of my mother's comfort, I slowly crawled into her lap.
"I love you too," I said in a hushed video. I felt the slender arm wrapping around me as if I were in a protective shield.
Even though I was barely five back then, at that moment I knew what I wanted my future to be like. I wanted to stay near mother for as long as I could. I didn't mind becoming a sorceress as well. I didn't mind stay in this forest for the rest of my life. As long as this one person was at my side, I was ready to face anything.
