There are two things about promising that I wish to point out today. One, is that we should never promise God anything. Never make a promise with God. Two, don't promise yourself or anyone else.
Don't promise things in general. Now, I'm not trying to order you around, you have the right to listen to me or not. But what I do want from you is your attention for the next paragraph or so.
The reason I am saying that you shouldn't promise is because it's wrong. God commands us, as Christians, to always tell the truth! We have no need to promise or swear things. If I say "I will help you on that project." There is no need to promise, because I am a woman of my word. I am a Christian, if I say i'll do something, I mean it. Promising is for people who aren't trust on their word alone. They feel they need to prove that they will do something. We shouldn't have to use a promise as proof! We are supposed to tell the truth in everything we do.
Proverbs 12:22 - Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are His delight.
