"We should dance."

"Dance?" I roll over onto my stomach to face Zach.

"You know? Like here. In the living room. Just have fun."

"You're crazy."

"So I've heard," He sits up, "I'm bored. We should do something."

"You're always bored."

"You must be boring company," He teases.

"How rude! You're just a boring person," I poke his cheek.

"I'm the fun-est person in the world."

"Fun-est? Is that even a word?"

"When you're fun enough, you can create words," Zach replies coldly, flopping onto the couch.

"Whatever you say, King Clayton," I retort, rolling my eyes.

"Hey, you ever wonder about your future and friends and everyone?"

I pause, staring at the roof above me, "Sometimes, I wonder about whether my friends are going to be around, whether they actually are the people I know. If that makes sense?"

"Yeah, it does," We let silence fill the room, each letting our minds wander away, "How do friendships even happen? By pure chance? We just kinda fall into these friendships with other people. It's all luck."

"You mean like how I chose to be friends with you over another person?" I ask, propping my head up by my elbows.

"Yeah, exactly like that."

"It's the universe. It's the universe that puts us in certain places at certain time, in certain friendships, certain relationships, and as much as some of its choices seems stupid, it knows what it's doing, and I suppose everything is meant to teach us something."

Zach doesn't respond. He just lies there, staring at the roof from the couch.

"I never thought of it like that," He rolls down toward me so that we're both within inches of each other's faces,
both lying on our backs.

"So, why would we be here? In this exact place. With you," I wonder out loud.

"So I can do this," He responds quietly. Then, turning his face slightly, his lips meet mine gently.
