I got off the plane and gathered all of my stuff together. When I walked outside, I saw my brother waiting for me. I ran up to him and gave him a hug. I missed him.
"Where are your parents?" I asked putting my stuff in the car.
"Daddy's doing work at the church and Mama's at Uncle Craig's house."
"So did you have fun?" he asked pulling off.
"Yeah, I did actually."
He looked at me skeptically.
"You didn't go to that damn camp, did you?" he asked laughing. Darrell and I were real close, so he knew when I was lying.
"No," I laughed back.
"I know you didn't because somebody sent me this," he unlocked his phone and on the screen was a picture of me and Blake. Shit.
"Who sent you this?!" I snatched phone out of his hand.
Somedays I really wished my cousin would just stay off the internet.
"Does anybody else know? Because you know she got a big mouth."
"Nah, nobody else knows."
"Good! Don't tell nobody either."
"So what, are yall like friends or something?" he asked pulling up in our yard.
I got out and went straight in the house. I was too lazy to get my bags, so I just left them in the car. When I got in the house, I saw my parents sitting on the couch.
"Welcome home Bri!" they screamed.
"Jesus! Yall scared me," I said grabbing my chest, "you lied to me." I turned to Darrell and punched his arm.
I gave both of my parents hugs and tried to escape before my dad asked how the trip was, but I wasn't quick enough.
"So how was it?" he asked.
I figured I needed to be honest. There's no need to lie because I know he'll find out.
"Daddy, I can't lie; I didn't go to that camp. I danced all summer. I know you're probably mad, but I just couldn't go."
I was kinda waiting for him to slap the shit outta me, but he didn't. Instead I felt him hug me.
"You're not mad?" I asked with confusion in my voice.
"No because you told the truth. And whatever you did out there obviously worked because you're not the same person you were when you left. Your attitude is much better and that's all that matters."
•in my head•
Thank you BasedGod!
"Where's Bailey?" I asked looking around.
Bailey was my little corgi puppy. I missed her little spastic ass.
"Tiffany is dog sitting," Darrell said.
I started to walk to my room, but I was still walking weird and everybody noticed.
"Why are you walking like that?" my dad asked.
•in my head•
"Being the clumsy person that I am, when I was leaving the house I fell on my leg and it hurts pretty bad," I lied.
"Do you need to go to the hospital?"
"Nah, I'm good."
I tried going to my room again, but this time my mom stopped me.
"Where are you going?" she asked standing up.
"To lie down."
"We're about to go out," she said grabbing arm and walking toward the door.
"Can I at least change?" I asked.
"What you're wearing is fine."
We all got in the car and drove off. We pulled up outside of this house; it was nice. When we got out of the car, my parents and brother just stood there smiling at me.
"Why are yall smiling like that?" I asked.
"Happy early birthday!" the three of them yelled.
"Yall got me a house for my birthday?" I asked slowly.
I was so confused. First of all, my birthday wasn't until next month. Second, most parents get their kid a card and some money, not a house. I ain't complaining though.
"Yeah! We knew you were savin' up to get your own place, but we just decided to do this for your birthday," my dad said.
"Aw, thank you! I love yall."
I gave them all the tightest hugs. I walked toward the front door because now I was anxious to see what it looked like inside. I opened the door and walked inside.
