The sun was shining, birds were singing their sweet melody, my mother was singing a tune in the kitchen, and I was just calmly writing my invention ideas into my notebook. I hope this would be good, I thought. Writing my thoughts down onto the lined paper and drawing some rough sketches, I heard a loud BOOM sound off in the distance and shook the face of the Earth. It was probably just another person in my town messing around. The fact that it was summer probably made everything even more badly than it usually is. Come to think about it, everybody's personality is a lot worse depending on the season. It was probably nothing to be afraid of . . . I hope.Ah! Hello there. My name is Winona Tellheart; I am called Winnie for short. I'm a third generation inventor in my family; I live in the city of Elk-Bark. My mother is Latvian while my father is African-American. I have an older brother named Zacharias, who is quite annoying at times. He always wants to see what I'm trying to invent 'this time around'. His usual question that he asks me is 'Can you build something for me?' to which I respond with a solid no. I don't invent for the sake of one person, I invent to explore and let my imagination loose and run wild. The city I live in is extremely vivacious and wild. There were at least five crimes a day, maybe even seven if the city was feeling a little extra. I know for a person like you, this city seems extremely dangerous for a child like me. But it's okay. I can and will survive.
I'm pretty sure there's never been an explosion in Elk-Bark, and it sounds like the bang was from somewhere else. I shrugged and went back to brainstorming. Maybe it would be on the news or maybe my parents would tell me about it.
I continued drawing rough sketches and writing down what uses of my project could be used for. Thankfully, summer brought many opportunities for brainstorming, school wasn't in the way, and the day was longer. The next time I looked up, it was night. I searched for the moon, and it wasn't there. Hmm . . . maybe it just wasn't out, but there was a waxing crescent yesterday? I thought that I was just hallucinating, but I looked closer and saw a . . . paper moon? It was dark and large. Without a closer look you couldn't even tell there was a moon (which is what I thought). But with the starlight reflecting off it, you could clearly tell that the moon was replaced with a giant circular disk of shadowy tree remnants in the night sky. It was bizarre to say the most. Out of all the things I had witnessed in my life, there had never been something like this. This was going to cause some serious trouble; hurricanes would be more frequent, earthquakes would be triggered because of this.
I wondered who did this. How did were they able to transform a floating rock in space into another substance that thousands of miles away? This must have been the work of a magician. It had to be; only they have the power to do the impossible.
I went to sleep that night, without the moon resonating on my dopey eyes for the first time in years.
Hello! Thanks for tuning in for the new chapter of my new book. Hopefully there will be more to come, but I surely can't guarantee that. Well, see you next chapter!
