"What?" I heard both of them scream, half yell as I clarified the identity of this man.
"Are you sure?" Phillip asked as both of my hands rested on my lap, the picture now in Bruno's hands.
They sat there as the new information set in. Each second the silence grew and so did the tension.
My mind yelled. The silence was making me crazy, more crazy than I already am. I looked over at my shot hand as Phillip set the picture down on the bed and let out a loud sigh.
"Did you ever meet him?" Phillip asked as Bruno still remained silent, his hands pulling his perfectly styled hair.
"No. I only know him because of a picture I found at Drew's house." I grabbed the picture once more in my hands. "Drew never mentioned him. He avoided talking about him. The only thing Drew ever told me about him is that he was involved in some bad stuff. I never imagined it was this."
The silence returned.
"It always comes back to him." Bruno spoke as he let go of his curled hair and brought the attention back to Phillip and I.
"There is so many things I don't understand." My mind spoke for me.
I put the picture back in the folder and laid back down, ignoring the fact that I was not alone in the room.
My head was spinning with so many questions that I tried to answer but simply couldn't. Did Drew know anything about his father's death? How did Bill even meet Bruno and Phillip? My mind kept making up more and more questions when a voice spoke.
"We have to find Drew."
I turned towards the direction that the voice had come from and found Bruno standing with his hand back on his head.
"He must know something about Bill. I mean the man is his father." Bruno spoke as his tone got louder.
Phillip and I turned to look at each other. We said nothing but words were not necessary for me to know that he was also worried about Bruno.
We returned our attention back at Bruno who pacing around the room, searching for an explanation.
"Nala." Bruno spoke as he walked towards me and carefully placed my hands on his. "Do you know anything else about Bill? Anything!"
I closed my eyes and scanned through all the past memories. All the tears, all the laughs and all the joy. Memories passed and none was useful, until I remembered a secret. A secret that Brooke had told me, back then when my life was normal.
"I know where Bill lives."
Yes! This is exactly what we need! His house must have something useful! Right?
I let go of Nala's small hands and stood up, happiness flowing all over my body.
"Do you know exactly where?" I asked Nala as I looked at the time. 4:30.
"Yeah. It's a couple blocks away. Close by the mall." Nala answered slowly.
"Okay. We're going on a field trip." I said as I walked out the room.
"Woah hold on!" Phillip's voice said as he walked towards to me, Nala still in my bed. "We can't go right now. They'll see us."
He made a good point.
"Alright. We'll wait till it gets dark to go." I said as Nala approached us.
"Are you sure about this?" Nala asked, her voice sweeter than ever.
I grabbed hold of her hands, careful not to hurt her more, and looked deep into her eyes.
"It's the only way to find any clues that could clear my name. I can't protect you if the police is out looking for me."
"But if they catch you you'll be arrested for other things." Her voice cracked.
I looked over at Phillip who had his right arm around her in a comforting way.
"We won't get caught. Trust me."
She sighed at my words but smiled. I let go of her hands and walked out, Phillip and Nala following close behind me.
I waited impatiently for night to come as we sat in living room, the only source of noise coming from the widescreen television. I looked over at Nala who was happily entertained with the animal documentary on the screen. Then, my eyes made their way towards Phillip who was drinking some type of juice and who was also fascinated by the documentary.
I laughed to myself as the thought finally set in. It was only us three against all the laws and cops.
Phillip turned off the tv as Nala and I waited at the door, guns in my pockets. It was now 6:30 and the sky had finally turned dark.
"C'mon Phillip!" I yelled as Nala pulled at her leather jacket.
"Forgot my gun." Phillip responded as he exited the house.
I locked the door and made my way towards the drivers seat, Phillip sitting shotgun and Nala in the back.
"Ready?" I asked as I looked over at the criminal minds around me.
"Ready." Both of them responded as the car engined roared.
Bruno had been driving for about 15 minutes when I finally saw the familiar wooden house.
Bruno looked around for a hidden place to park as Phillip and I prepared his gun. The feeling of the black gun so close to me something I never thought I would feel but now that I was in this position, it wasn't that bad. Even though I had already accidentally shot myself and even though the pain even now was unbearable, I wasn't afraid of it the object in his hand.
Maybe it was because I saw it in different ways than most people. Like Bruno and Phillip, I didn't think of this gun as a simple way of death, but as protection. Bruno used it against Drew to protect me and that was enough for me to not be afraid of it.
Bruno parked the car in a hidden alley close to the house and took out his gun aswell. The three of us made our way out of the car and towards the house, me in between Phillip and Bruno. We stood infront of the door, each of us holding our breathes as Phillip tried to open the door but failed.
"It's not working." Phillip whispered as item was was placed in the key hole over and over again.
"Maybe we need a little push." Bruno said as he stepped back and kicked open the door, a layer of dust flying up into the air.
We walked into the house and silently closed the door as all three of us scanned for a light switch. I made my way towards the window when a clicking noise was heard, followed by lights being turned on.
I turned and saw Phillip with a proud smile at his accomplishment of finding a light switch. We walked towards Bruno who was standing in the middle of the room, his eyes wide open.
"What is it?" I quietly asked as I directed my eyes towards the object Bruno was looking at.
Shocked, I stepped back, my heart stopping. In front of us was a living room completely destroyed. Books on the floor, glass and the strong smell of liquor covering the floor and blood stains on most of the items in the room.
"What the hell..."
