I starred at the broken contraption in front of me.
Why did I ever agree to fix this android?
I sighed and got back to work, no use in getting discouraged. I promised Aaron I would fix this android, and I never break my promises.
Even so, the past few days have really taken a lot out of me. I found that one can not live entirely off of coffee and apples, before eventually crashing. During the past five days, I've probably gotten about six hours of sleep.
After I finished this job, I decided I was going to spend the entirety of the next day sleeping. That thought alone encouraged me to keep working.
I put my flashlight in my mouth, and got back to work with the control panel. I realized early on that the personality chip inside the android was completely fine, which made my job a whole lot easier.
The personality chip holds all the information and data for the android. It's like their brain, and without it, I would need to completely reprogram the android.
But the remainder of the control panel was still broken, which meant I had to completely reconstruct it. With any normal android, I could've just went to the market and bought a new one, but this android was so overcomplicated, it wasn't even worth it.
I continued reconnecting some wires that had been fried off. So far I had managed to replace the entirety of the outer panel, and also some of the main wires, but I still need a new core power source, which I didn't have.
I had talked to Katelyn about this, and she thought she might be able to find one. I sure hope so, because without a core, the android would be entirely useless, personality chip or not.
I heard a loud knock come from my door, which made me drop my flashlight. Luckily not on the control panel.
I tour my eyes away from my work desk, and looked over to the door. The knock sounded again, followed by a voice.
"Hey Aph, open up. I got what you asked for"
I quickly stood up and ran towards the door. Opening it quickly, I found Katelyn standing in the hallway, holding a plastic bag.
"Hey", she said, smiling, "I got the core you asked for. A good friend of mine who works in the factories scrapped a pretty good one from a discarded android.
She handed me the bag, and I eagerly opened it. "Oh Katelyn", I exclaimed, looking at the contents of the bag, "This is perfect, thank you so much"
Without think, I gave her a quick hug, making her smile even more. "No problem, and besides, I want this android fix just as much as you"
I groaned. "You have no idea"
She laughed, and so did I. It felt nice, laughing with a friend, like any normal person.
"You want to come in", I offered to Katelyn, trying to be civil.
She shrugged her shoulders. "Why not"
"Here", I said, opening the door wider, "I can show you what I have so far"
She walked into my small apartment, and started to look around. "Nice place you got here"
I snorted at her comment. "You don't need to lie"
Katelyn looked troubled at my remark, but I ignored it. "Here's the control panel, I got really lucky because the personality chip was untouched"
I sat down on my chair, and swiveled it to face Katelyn. "All though, I'm still unsure what actually happened to the android for it malfunction like this, it really it odd"
