A/N: So first off, I'm so sorry it's been so long. This was the busiest two weeks of my LIFE, and I'm just trying not to flunk out of university and somehow keep myself from going on a homicidal rampage. Nonetheless, I am so so so SO sorry to have kept you waiting.
Please enjoy the chapter, seeing as it's the last one before the epilogue. *cries*

"I love you too."
It felt like my heart had leapt into my throat when I heard those words leave his perfectly plump lips, water droplets dripping from his impossibly long eyelashes.
"You...you do?" I asked in disbelief.
Liam laughed, nodding his head. "Yeah, I do. And I'm so sorry it took me so long to say it."
"But...but back at the gala you said that - "
"I didn't mean any of that Carter. I was just upset and I let myself get sucked into that world again, just like my dad. But I'm not him, and I don't want to be him."
I was quiet for a moment. "Who do you want to be?" I whispered.
Liam smiled, looking me right in the eyes.
"I want to be someone worthy of you."
"You already are."
He seemed taken aback by my lack of hesitation, but I just grinned up at him. I clutched the back of his neck tightly, resting our foreheads together as happy tears streamed down my face. He held me tightly to him, not saying a word as the rain continued to pour around us.
"Well that's good to know. But the real question is," he said, "are you going to actually stick around this time?"
I laughed, leaning my head back and looking up at the sky, letting the rain hit my face. I could feel Liam's eyes on me, and I took a deep breath before looking back at him.
"I'm not going anywhere."
"Excuse me? Excuse me could I have everyone's attention please?"
Carter giggled behind me as the two of us casually walked back into the gala, looking absolutely ridiculous in our wet clothes compared to everyone else. Well, I looked ridiculous, with my tie hanging loose around my neck and my hair sticking to my forehead. She looked like an angel as always.
Everyone in the gala turned to look at us as we trudged through the main room, gasping as they looked at us heathens. I brought Carter and myself to a stop smack dab in the middle of the room, everyone's eyes on us. I could practically feel the anger radiating off of my father, who was right in front of me, brooding as per usual. Carter leaned into my side, shaking from laughter.
"Hello yes, if you didn't know, my name is Liam Payne." I said loudly, speaking to everyone. "This whole event was organized by me, and the only reason any of you were even invited is because I wanted you to donate money so I can officially start work on this super boring project for this super arrogant rich bloke named Grayson, who is around here somewhere. No offense mate."
Carter's shoulders were shaking even harder now and I was having trouble not laughing at everyone's shocked faces too. These rich pricks I've had to deal with my entire life - my father included - certainly aren't used to theatrics like this that aren't intended to entertain them.
"Now truth be told, I don't really give a damn about this project." I said bluntly, pausing for a moment for everyone to gasp appropriately. I could see my father glaring, fire in his eyes. Too bad it didn't even phase me. I couldn't care less. "Actually, I don't give a damn about any of you. Truth be told, the only person I care about, is this girl right here." I looked down at Carter and grinned. "This beautiful, amazing, insane girl. And I've been a dick to her. Granted, she was a bitch too, running off and all-"
