I stepped into the harsh winter air causing me to tug at my black hoodie. I placed my hands inside my pockets, hoping to get some warmth. I began to wander aimlessly, my destination unknown.
I soon found myself in the midst of the city, the sudden surroundings engulfing me. The concoction of smell wafted to me, giving me a scent of the street food and smoke combined. I was faced with a large circus tent, striped red and white, capable of seating many.
I wasn't aware of it before, it would be hard to miss. Maybe they had come without warning. My thoughts were interrupted by an eruption of cheers and loud claps. A stunt must have been performed.
I took a few steps forward, leading me to the entrance of the vast tent. However I quickly stepped away realising I didn't have enough money for a ticket and only enough for food. It was only about 6 in the evening and the sun had already set, leaving a darkened sky.
I approached one of the stalls and ordered some fries. I was hungry but I didn't want to eat a full meal at the moment. As I handed him the money and was passed what I had ordered, the appetising smell entered my nostrils, making me inhale deeply, wanting more.
I began eating as I slowly walked away, going to a nearby park. I sat on the swings, thoughts flooding through my head. When did the circus come? Why had it come? Why were there no posters or any form of advertisement? Something seemed slightly off about it however I shrugged it off quickly, dismissing any lingering thoughts.
