The next few days were pretty normal, I would wake up before everyone else and be off to work. Then I'd be back after everyone was asleep. I must've put in over twelve hours each day. When Friday hit the boss told me to go home early. I looked at the time and it was only three. I took the opportunity to take the shuttle back home.
After a relaxing ride back I took a simple walk to the house. I smiled as I passed Tai on the way in.
"You're back early," he said looking at me.
"Got the rest of the day, and the weekend, off." I replied.
"You deserve it, you've been working hard. Oh and by the way, I'm heading out for the weekend."
"Want me to watch the girls?"
"Please? Just keep them out of trouble. They should be fine."
"They're in good hands sir, I've watched civilians with plenty of threats around. These girls shouldn't be a problem."
He chuckled at this as if I were wrong. He then said, "good luck."
I waved him off and walked up to the house. As I neared I could Ruby yelling at Yang, I couldn't hear what the words were but I could tell she was pleading about something. I opened the door and slipped inside and I could hear the word a better.
"Please, Yang?!"
"Ruby, you look fine."
"But it's annoying me."
"Sis. You. Look. Fine." Yang put emphasis on each word.
I stood there and just listened, they still haven't noticed I walked in.
"Please?" Ruby stretched out the word and looked up at her sister with big puppy eyes. Ruby then picked up Zwei and held him in front of her, he was also making the same pleading face as her. This made me chuckle, my voice made them jump.
"Sorry guys, but what is this all about?" I said walking into the room.
Yang smiled, "Ruby wants me to trim her hair, even though she looks fine."
"It's getting on my nerves. It won't stay down in some places."
I chuckled and rubbed the back of my neck.
"How about we make a deal Yang?"
"The depends," she replied, "what is it?"
"You set everything up and take care of Ruby. Then you can do mine. I need one done, haven't had one since... it's been a while."
"Deal big boy," she said walking away. Ruby let out a 'yay' as she did. I smiled and sat on the couch. I flipped through a magazine as Ruby and I waited.
"Why are you home so early?" Ruby asked. "Don't you usually work till, like, midnight?"
"Firstly, yes usually," I started. "But the boss let me out early so I could relax for the weekend. Secondly, how would you know? Shouldn't you be asleep?"
"I sometimes wait to make sure you get back alright," she replied with a smile.
I ruffled her hair a little, "Thanks kiddo."
"Don't call me kiddo, you're not that much older than me."
I bit my tongue so I didn't say anymore. She obviously had no clue that I had been dead for a while and was brought back at the age I died. If I were to count my age from my birth year, I'd be almost ten times her age, maybe twenty times.
