We Are The Ones

Joseph POV

Something was definitely up with Robin.

I had been trying to figure out what the hell could have happened in the last twenty fours hours for her to suddenly become distant again. But she had made it more than obvious she was avoiding any contact with me.

But she clearly had no problem being around Ryan.

Clenching my jaw, I felt my grip getting tighter as I held one of the old footballs that had been on my desk for decoration. My knuckles whitening as I gripped the slightly deflated leather ball.

"You ready to go out to the field?" Dean asked as he walked into my office as the door was already slightly ajar.

"Yeah," I got up grabbing my whistle and keyboard.

I picked up some gear by the door getting ready for another day in heat. One thing I don't miss about playing football is playing in the Tampa heat. It was always hot especially in the beginning of the school year.

Walking out into the blaring sun, I could hear the sound of all the other schools teams practicing. The soccer field was right next ours and the cheer leading team had started practicing on the stands when Stacey came back as head coach.

And of course she was there, not that I was surprised.

I guess I was just hoping on some level we could have more distance between each other. We are like ticking time bombs near each other.

The players were filing out to the field as some of them had already started their stretching or mingling with the rest of the team. I made my way to the middle of the football field setting my gear down getting ready for the long afternoon practice. Scanning the group of students on the field, I found what I was looking for instantly gritting teeth

My heart pounded against my chest as I glared at Ryan as he  stood at the refreshments table flirting with Robin.

Well at least that's what it looked like.

I knew that they were just talking and I was being territorial. But I could not help but feel somewhat envious watched her smile at whatever he was saying. Her eyes met mine for a split second only for her to look away with a quickness making me feel in easy.

She was definitely trying to steer clear from me.

Well she can avoid me all she wants but that shit was ending today. I was determine to figure out what was going on with her. Watching her with Ryan and not knowing what she was thinking was killing me so I  knew needed to act fast.

I was undeniably drawn to her and wanted to see where our relationship with one other went. She was always on my mind.

Including my dreams.

I couldn't get her out of my head and her keeping her distance from me was only fueling my desire to be near her.

I blew the whistle signaling practice. "Hurry up and let's go!" I yelled as Dean walked out on to the field following along with the rest of the players who were jogging their way over.

I observed as Robin looked anywhere but me as she joined the group of boys standing in the back along side Alicia before Dean and I as we began practice.
