"You don't look to good," Ryan mumbled beside me as we were supposed to be working on our worksheet.
"I was up late finishing up some schoolwork," I replied as I tried to concentrate on the sheet of paper in front of me. Truth is I hadn't got much sleep last night because I kept thinking about my meeting with Stacey yesterday.
She was definitely suspicious of me and Joe.
I had stayed up most of the night trying to get ahead on all of my school work making sure I didn't give her any reason to get me expelled.
"At least it has nothing to do with coach Anoa'i," he responded to which I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
"Ryan, not today please," I expressed as I was not in the mood to feed into his curiosity either. Stacey knowing about my situation was enough without having Ryan poking in my business too.
"Alright chill, no worries," he replied as he raised both hands up giving me a dashing smile. I couldn't help but smile back as his smile was a bit contagious.
Ryan does have a nice smile.
"So homecoming week is coming up next week," Ryan spoke quietly changing the subject as he turned to face me. He had a look of anticipation as if waiting for me to say something.
"So?" I responded not sure where he was going with this.
"So? Homecoming week is gonna be pretty hectic. I mean there is gonna be a lot of boring football obligations we are probably gonna have to do but there is a fun side." He explained.
"What's the fun part of it?" I asked a bit curious.
"Well there is the homecoming dance, a carnival, and there is teachers vs students football game I'm pretty excited for." He continued as he sounded eager about the events to come.
I had to admit the carnival sounded fun. I needed a distraction from the drama brewing around me at the moment.
"That sounds pretty exciting," I replied.
"Do you want to have lunch together?" He asked as everyone was starting to pack up as class was coming to an end soon.
I honestly didn't want to be alone right now and Joe was the last person I wanted to be around right now. After bumping into Stacey last night, the look in her eyes had me petrified and I honestly didn't know how I was going to handle the situation.
"Sure," I agreed right as the bell had rung signaling that class was over. I quickly packed my things as I left the class room with Ryan making sure not to look Joe's way. I had resisted the urge to look his way the the whole class and it was one of the hardest things I had to do. It was best we avoided contact for now because you never know when she is gonna pop up again.
"Where are we going for lunch?" I asked as we walked out of the school building into the parking lot as I followed his lead. The sun was blaring today as the temperatures were definitely high today. One thing I have come to enjoy in Florida is the warm weather.
"Student apartment housing," he responded making me stop my tracks.
Does he mean his apartment?
"Uh um Ryan?" I called his name out as he stopped walking and realized that I was not behind him.
"What's the matter?" he asked as he approached me.
"I don't really feel comfortable going into your apartment." I told him as I wondered why he would think to take me there for lunch.
"Don't you trust me?" He asked standing before me as his green eyes seemed brighter outside in the sun. He wore a white t-shirt with grey basketball shorts showing off his physique.
