When I wake up, James is no longer laying on the ground beside my bed. The blankets were folded nicely on the chair.
I hear a buzz and I look up to see 4 missed calls. All from my mother. I should be scared shouldn't I?
I call her back and on the 3rd ring, she answers with an annoyed voice.
"Allison, I have been trying to get in touch all morning."
"I'm aware mom, what do you need?" I say sitting up in bed, and putting my hair into a bun.
"Remember that we have the town Masquerade party tonight. I already have your dress picked out, find a date. Unless you want me to get that too."
"Mom I have a job, I don't even know if I can go."
"Find out and we will go from there. Hope to see you tonight. Bye." She says and with that she hangs up.
I groan and begin to get ready for the day, I go for natural makeup and wear clothes to clean in.
I walk out of my room and I see James sitting at the kitchen bar seat, reading the paper.
"Good morning, Allison. You have a lot of cleaning to do. I am expecting company over for a work meeting." he says, not even bringing up last night.
"Yes sir. I have a question though." I say, heading towards the mop. ;
"Go ahead then."
"I have a get together back at home. Ya know, the whole town has it's traditions-"
"I don't know, but I'm sure you're going to inform me about it." He sounded grumpy.
"Well we can save that for another day, I was just wondering if after I clean, can I head back home to go to it?"
"Sure why not? It's your paycheck, not mine."
Why did he have to act this way? Just last night he was sweet, and comforting me.
I was bummed out about my paycheck because I really needed the money, but I wanted to invite Seth. I felt bad for not seeing him, so I really wanted to make it up to him.
I go to the bathroom, so I am able to text Seth without getting in trouble by James.
"Hey, I've missed you, would you maybe want to come to a family party with me tonight? It's like a masquerade ball so if you're able to come you'd have to wear a suit and everything. I'd understand if you didn't want to go though, because it's kind of last minute and cheesy." I text him.
I only had to wait two minutes when I get a reply.
"I'd love to. What time should I be there?"
My heart warms up, and after I send him the information, I get a knock on the bathroom door.
"The sound of your fingers hitting your phone keyboard lets me know that you're not actually using the restroom. If you want to go tonight, do your actual job and stop texting your boyfriend."
He sounded jealous.
Which has become a regular thing for him.
I get back to cleaning and I didn't mind if James snapped at me, because I was just looking forward to tonight and seeing Seth.
The time went by slow, I'm guessing because I stared at the clock the entire day. But once James released me at 5:00 I was able to grab my makeup and stuff and head to my car. I was going to get ready there.
Once I arrived at my house I see people walking around getting ready for the party that started at 7. I look at the name of the party "Masquerade Ball"
I walk up my spiral stair case and memories of my childhood fill my mind. I remember taking my homecoming photos with boys that my parents picked out for me to go with. I was so sad then. Never having the choice of my own.
So many memories in this house have left me haunted.
When I get to my bedroom, I see the dress my mother laid out for me. She may have never given me the choice sometimes, but she had good taste when it came to clothes.
It was a gorgeous, long, black dress that had long black, laced, sleeves. It fit my body well and showed of the curves that I have.
It also had the mask laying next to it,
I begin to start on my makeup, I do a black smokey look to match my dress, and then I begin to do my hair, giving myself long, loose, curls.
By the time I was done it was 7 and the bell began to ring, letting me know that the guest had arrived.
I glance out the window seeing all the cars lined up, as I'm looking around I come across a familiar car. James steps out and hands the key over to the guy that was taking the cars. He puts his mask on and begins to walk towards my house.
Why was he here? I didn't invite him? I was in for an interesting night.
Sorry to cut you off there, and I'm sorry it's a short chapter but I am going to try and start updating more, school has just gotten in the way. I'm glad to see that many of you are enjoying it. Let me know what you think by commenting and letting me know your thoughts! Bye!
