Chapter 8 | Is this just a test?

I jumped at the voice. I turned but saw no one. I glanced around and all I saw was trees.

"You didn't have to be so hard on him you know?"the voice said. It was deep but soothing. But there's this power in it. Like Piper's voice.

Don't count on it because they totally suck.

I shook my head, "Who are you?"

I heard a chuckle, "You have a flare for dramatics, just like your uncle."

Suddenly I felt a strong pressure everywhere, it's like a vacuum cleaner, but all it absorbs is forming in front of me. A second later, a man wearing a black cloak stood in front of me. I looked at his face and saw his warm smile. His eyes were black and he had a perfect build. One look on this guy and you can tell he's a god.

I studied him further, his presence was older. Older that Gaea herself. And I know only one person who is older tham her.

"Chaos."

The father of the universe grinned further. "Perseus Jackson."

My face quickly scrunched, "Percy." I corrected him.

He laughed, "Yeah, I forgot you like to be called Percy."

I just stared at him.

He immediately cleared his throat when he saw that I was waiting for him to speak.

"So you might be wondering why i'm here."he said. "To tell you the truth, it's not about killing you" his smile came back.

I narrowed my eyes, "Gee, everyone would believe that."I muttered.

I lived with weird gods and monsters since I was 12. Majority of them tried to kill me. So basically, you can't trust them unless they gave you a reason to or you're just desperate at the time.

"My goal is not to persecute you Percy, the council wants you in ou-"

"Woah woah woah!"I said, stopping him. "Council?"

He sighed, "Will you please listen to me first."

I hesitated. There's another council. That's a bad sign. I almost glanced behind my back to find Annabeth but then I remembered that she wasn't with me.

She'll never be with me again.

I sighed, "Go on."

Chaos looked at me, "As I said, I am not here to kill you rather the council would want your presence at Xilphain. I volunteered to personally invite you to our planet."

"Okay what's silk pain? Is that causing pain by silk or something?"

The creator rolled his eyes, "Xilphain, that is my planet. And the council wan-"

"Yeah I got that, but what is this council composed of?"

"Why, primordials of course."

My mind was spinning. Literally. First, a Primordial council wants me to go to xil-something, which is another planet in the galaxy- wait I don't even know if it's in this galaxy. Second, why would the creator of the universe personally see me.

"Okay, so you want me to go to silk city or someth-"I started

"Xilphain"he corrected me

"Right, Xilphain. Whatever. But why?"I asked.

He grinned as if his face was tearing off. "To join my army of course."

"To join your army?"

"Yes! You are needed, very much actually. You could be the new assasin."

That was the call.

"No."

His grin disappeared. "No?"

I nodded, "Yes, I said no."challenging him.

"No...you said..."He suddenly scowled "You are the first person to ever refuse my generous offer to be in my army. Every man wants to be a part of it."His eyes flashing with anger."Every man would get what they wanted. Glory, Gifts, Power, Acqauintances. Everything. Yet you..." His voice was like charmspeak. But Piper told me a way to counter it.

Then an image flashed in my eyes. Me in front of everybody, wearing a crown. Riches were on the floor. I felt powerful. So powerful. Like I could take on the Olympians altogether.

But I knew better. That image was not what I wanted.

I laughed humourlessly, "Oh yeah, well guess what, i'm still refusing your offer. I don't need power! I want peace and I am not going to be a pawn again. From now on, I stand on my own, and you gods, titans, giants, or primordials don't own me. I've had enough of this stuff."I said angrily. Tears were streaming down my face.

A dark aura rolled off him in waves. "Well then, i'll have to take you by force. You are very much needed in the army."

I uncapped Riptide. "Then, i'll fight you." I assumed a fighting stance.

I know it was impossible. I know it is. But i'm not going to go to a silly planet to be someone's pawn once more. I'd rather die. Maybe by that, Annabeth and the others would forgive me.

But I looked at his face and saw that he was smiling. The creepy aura faded and he returned to his friendly state.

I didn't know what to do. Just stay on my battle stance or relax because I think the creator of the universe is Bipolar.

"Whooo, that was hard. I was trying my best not to laugh at your face by the way."

Yep, definitely bipolar.

He touched the tip of Riptide with his index finger and lowered it. He shook my free hand and said, "You have passed my test Perseus-ahem I mean Percy Jackson."

Test?

What?!

"So this was some kind of exam? You had to make me look like a fool? Then i'll pass it? Wow that's just great!"I said with a scowl.

Chaos, however, just smiled calmly. "It was a simple really, I try to persuade you to come to join the army with greedy desires. And you refused. So far you are the 5th person who did."

"So are you saying that majority of your army are greedy people?"

"Oh no! I started this a century ago and in 100 years only four has been the new recruits, the ones who refused like you did. Eventually they joined the army when they realized their main goal was to help other planets."

I stayed silent.

"Yeah so,"he looked at me."The point is, I want you to be a part of my army."he said. "Not a test, I tell you. An honest request, join my army in Xilphain."

He sounds honest, I don't know how I knew but I just do. But still...

"Chaos, why me?"I asked. "Didn't you see what happened. Poseidon disowned me. I have no powers, the only thing I use is Riptide. I failed to save Camp Half-Blood twice; first, in the attack, and second, in leaving them with,"I swallowed. "With Damien."

Chaos smiled symphatically, "It's not your fault."he said. "It was bound to happen. You would have to reconsider someday but not now. I have always admired you the moment you fought Ares by the beach years ago. And you surprised me more for refusing power. You are not worthless Percy Jackson. The gods have failed to see that, but the Council of Primordials saw your hardships and with that you have proved to be worth our blessings."He winked. "But only if you accept it."

I considered this. I have no life here. In fact, I don't know what to do. But I don't want to fight anymore. I just want to live peacefully. Without the painful memories, the emptiness in my chest, the nightmares. I want it all gone. And Chaos said I could ask anything I want.

"Chaos, like I said, I don't need power. I don't need any of it. What I need is a peaceful life. Away from all this." I gestured to my surroundings. "I-" my voice broke. "I want a new life. A new beggining. I want an end to Percy Jackson."

He smiled as I continued.

"I'll come with you to Xilphain."
