Chapter 27

I walked to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom in search of Remus.

I ran up the stairs and into his classroom. He sat at his desk, and Harry was gone.

"Did you know I was going to Ilvermorney?" I asked angrily, still walking at him.

"Professor Dumbledore told me earlier. I found out just before you did." Remus said, standing up.

"Aren't you going to do anything to stop them?"

"I can't. This was the Minister of Magic's choice and we have no control over what he says."

"Can't you at least try to talk him out of it?"

"For the last time Iris, we can't do a single thing about it! You are leaving tonight and we have to obey."

We sat in silence for a moment, and tears filled my eyes.

"I just don't want to leave." I said.

"I know you don't."

"I just met my friends, and everything was going great, and now I have to leave it all."

We sat in silence for a moment.

"Can't you come with me?" I asked. "To Ilvermorney?"

"I have to teach here at Hogwarts." Remus said.

"Can't you at least take me there?"

"Iris, tomorrow is a full moon, and you know what happens on a full moon."

"But you'll be taking me tonight, not tomorrow night."

"We won't make it back in time for me to leave the castle."

"But..."

"No buts Iris!" Remus said. "I am not taking you to Ilvermorney! I don't see the problem with Professor McGonagall and Hagrid taking you."

"Professor McGonagall wants me dead!"

Remus stood in shock. "She did not say that to you, did she?"

I nodded, tears running down my face. "I bet she thinks I'll turn out exactly like my father. I bet she thinks I'll wind up getting myself thrown into Azkaban like my father. She probably thinks I'm an evil human being who deserves to be thrown in the pits of hell!"

"Iris! Watch your mouth!" Remus snapped at me.

"What's the point anymore? The dementors are still after me, McGonagall wants me dead, and more and more people are finding out about who I really am, so I'll probably be dead by the end of the year."

"Iris, we can go to the Ministry and prove your father innocent! Then he can come out of hiding and you can see him again."

"Dumbledore told me I can never see my father again. He is probably right, because by the time you prove him innocent, we'll both be dead."

"Don't talk that way Iris."

"I don't care anymore! I refuse to go to Ilvermorney and loose my friends, and if I have to go I am not going with McGonagall!"

"Look I'm sorry that you aren't happy with the arrangements made but we can not change them now! We are doing this to keep you safe..."

"Everything you have tortured me with was to keep me 'safe'. Has it worked? No! Have you ever considered that maybe keeping me safe was to just keep me away from people that can hurt me? Things that can hurt me? Keeping me safe is not changing who I am, and forcing me to hide my identity!"

"Hiding your identity is what your father wanted!"

"I don't think he wanted the man who was supposed to keep me safe to force me into keeping a name that I can't take! He wouldn't want me to be slowly driven insane because I'm forced to hide myself!"
