Hey, quick word before you start! This story will be based completely in Japan after chapter 2. So if you don't like Japan then all I can say is to read something you'd enjoy! The main character is called Tachibana Risa but is referred to as Lily in the US and by her mum (think of it as a nickname). So, please continue through chapter 1!

Update: I added a photo of some drawings I did of Risa. I'll do some more, that are better, when I have more time ^_~

Chapter 1 – Tachibana Risa

“That was brilliant, Lily! One of your best shoots this summer! Looks like you won’t have to come in until September. Okay, let’s have a coffee break everyone!”

Marie and Violet cheered, clapping and laughing. “Well done Lily. C’mon, let’s go to the cafe before the lunch rush, get some coffee and chillax! We’ve got a lot to catch up on!” Marie exclaimed. Her long blonde locks bounced up and down as she skipped out of the dark studio. Violet gave me a look and we giggled. She was more collected and preferred being surrounded by quiet people (unlike Marie). Even so, we had come together as a group of three very good friends who did shoots together and enjoyed spending time with each other.

“Could I have a cappuccino please?” I requested. The coffee man, who was rather good-looking, smiled seductively and replied with a whispered ‘yes, darling’. We all burst into giggles, but he didn’t look embarrassed at all. He must’ve been a player. Absolutely must’ve.

Marie stuck her tongue out playfully at me and we sat down whilst the guy made our coffees. “Oh my gosh, did you see that Violet? He was literally goggling his eyes at you!” she whispered loudly. I pouted, closed my eyes, and smirked. This made the two girls beside me give me disapproving looks, but they ended up smiling anyway.

“So Lily, you’re free until September, aren’t you?” Violet asked, sipping on her iced coffee which the goggling guy had just brought over.

“Yep, I think so. Once September comes I’ll hardly have time to study because my schedule will be so full.”

Marie sighed. “I wish we could just model and not go to school. School is so boring now, since all we want to do is model,” she moaned. I nodded, but I still liked going to school. Despite my cousin pushing me into modelling, I didn’t want to do it as a life job. I was currently a supermodel, but I would never have expected to become one three years ago. That was when I moved to the USA to get cosmetic surgery. “You’re lucky, Violet, because you don’t have to go to school anymore. How is it?”

“I love it. Modelling is my life – I would give anything up for it. You guys should still study well before school ends – you’ve got a year left, right?”

“Yeah, but none of my subjects are excelling,” Marie complained. “I just want to spend my whole day in the studio, or wherever our shoot is. And I want to spend that time with you two, having fun and earning money for it!”

It was then that I realised just how much my two modelling buddies loved modelling. It never occurred to me that modelling could be so important to someone. To the extent that they’d even give up school for it. “Guys, I’m going to the loo really quickly, okay?”

I stood up and rushed to the loo. Just as I was washing my hands, my phone rang. It was mum. “Hello?”

“Darling, I’ve got another email from your homeroom teacher. He says you’re failing in physics and maths – what’s going on? Didn’t I say before we left, that you would have to study hard to get into Harvard? How can you be failing at such a vital time of your life?”

Inside, I groaned. “Sorry mum. I don’t know what’s wrong, I just can’t keep up,” I made up (in half English half Japanese). I wasn’t actually failing, I just made out that I was failing. I didn’t know why. I just didn’t want to be the nerd of my class. It was so much easier being stupid – though my classwork was always correct. Mr Turret was being a bit harsh on me, but he knew I was ‘bright’ so tended to get me to show it.
