"Hey" the voice startled me and made me whip my head in the direction it came from. I saw Alex climbing up the stairs that lead to my rooftop and turned my head back to it's original position.

I was sitting on the rooftop looking down at the dimly lit street across my house. Holding my legs up to my chest with my arms wrapped around them I plopped my head on the space between my knees.

"Hey" I responded back as Alex sat right beside me and let out a sigh.

"So," he started off "what's the reason for you calling me up here?" he asked and I knew he was looking at me.

I'm leaving tomorrow

"None" I lied and didn't take my gaze away from the pavement below. Alex scoffed as he knew me all to well to know there was definitely a reason, but he brushed it off.

He changed the subject to school, which was supposed to be starting the next week, perhaps he was too happy to be going back, what he didn't know was that I was not going back.

We didn't realize we'd been up there for almost two hours until Alex's phone went off. He took it out of his pocket and I looked at him as the small screen lit up his face while he read the text on it. A wide smile appeared on his face and he started typing something.

"I'm sorry" he said putting the phone down "You know Lisa" he said smiling at the mention of his girlfriend's name.

Lisa

"Yeah" I simply said.

"I have to go" he said before getting up. "Cheer up, school's not going to be that bad" he said messing up my hair.

"Alex!" I said trying to slap his hand away from my head and he just laughed.

"I'll see you tomorrow" he said smiling widely. I was silent and I heard him walk over to the ladder.

"Hey Alex" I said and he stopped midway looking back at me.

"Hm?"

"Have fun" I said and he nodded.

"Always do" he responded with a wink.

"That idiot" I said as I looked down at my clenched fist and opened it revealing a small locket.

Stupid.

I thought before throwing it from my rooftop somewhere into my front lawn.

It's not that I couldn't bring myself to tell him, hell I was the most blunt person there could be, and I'd fucked up so many times for not knowing when to hold back. But for the first time it didn't feel right. Even though I was probably being selfish not letting him even know I was leaving or properly saying goodbye, it was better this way, at least for me.

I was leaving to break off any ties I had to this old place, telling Alex anything would only make things worse. Besides, he had Lisa. Not like I'm of any use anymore.

"Bleh" I said rolling my eyes and standing up.

I needed a clean break from my old life, being stuck in this old place would get me nowhere.

I climbed down the ladder and went back into my house. At this point not once had I doubted my decision which was unusual. I walked back into my room with a bowl of cereal on one hand and holding my phone up with the other.

Viria: Hey! hope you have a good night sleep.

Can't wait for you to get here

I smiled down at my phone and threw myself at my bed.

"I guess this is goodbye" I said to myself before taking a look around my almost empty room and the packed bags in front of the closet.

Goodbye

"Honey please call every single time you can" My mother said holding onto me and squishing me with her arms.

"Yes" I said for like the thousandth time.

"We'll miss you VeeVee" my dad said and I looked at both of them before hugging them.

"Have fun" my mother said before I walked off into the terminal.

As I went through the glass doors there was a set of restaurants and coffee shops to my left. I walked along looking at every single shop and stopped in front of a bakery. The warm smell of hot cocoa and freshly made bread drew me in.

I waked over to the counter and looked at the bread pieces on the other side of the glass.

"Did you need any help?" a girl asked on the other side and I looked up at her.

"Oh... no I" I said freezing looking at the chocolate croissant. "Thanks" I finally said exiting the shop.

How you would have loved one of those and probably made me buy one, or two.

As I sat waiting for my plane to be boarded I took out the small leather covered black notebook from my bag and opened it revealing a plain page.

Day 1:

I wrote down

Hey Kris,

So, today I'll finally be leaving Baltimore, like I used to say many times before.

I'm currently waiting to board my plane, you know earlier as I walked into the terminal I passed by one of those bakeries that sold those diabetes bomb croissants you'd always get, I know if you were here you'd probably make me get us one, or two.

I just wish you were here, but don't worry, I'll write to you every day

Xoxo, Venus
