Castiel and Dean walked shoulder to shoulder to the school parking lot. Dean's so called "Baby" was waiting there and truly this car was something beautiful. Dean presented it and patted the roof, smiling and admiring her. If Castiel didn't know better he would have said it just came off of the assembly line. Castiel tried to lighten the mood. Change the subject to anything else. Hurry..
"Wow Dean your car is great. Uh, is it new?" Cas asked letting his curiosity about Dean overcome him.
Dean chuckled, "Actually it's her 50th birthday this year, so nope." Dean smiled and they both hopped in the car. Castiel threw his bag in the back and buckled up, Cas was just glad to be out of the cold now. Dean on the other hand opted not to buckle up but to push a cassette tape into the radio. Baby roared to life and some oddly familiar song filled the car, and they headed out.
"Wait," Dean said turning down the song, "Where do you live?"
"Oh my house is on the outskirts of town, on Maple Drive, do you know it?" Cas replied.
"Yeah I do actually," Dean said turning up the music again, only halfway to where it was before.
They rode together the ten minutes or so to Castiels' house. Dean mouthing along to every word in his songs, and Cas gripping his thighs and bouncing his knee nervously. His house wasn't very nice but it was cheap and big enough for his mom, his brothers, and himself. Honestly Cas wouldn't be surprised if a stiff breeze knocked it over. I wish it would. He's going to think I'm poor. I mean look at this place.
They rolled up to the gravel driveway leading to a shabby two story farm house with a weathered roof, busted up porch, and over grown weeds. Cas signaled to Dean that this was the place and Dean turned down the music again as he pulled into the driveway.
Cas reached into the back and grabbed his bag and dug out his cigarettes. Dean parked and looked the house over. "S'a nice place you got here, is it just you and your parents?" Dean questioned looking disappointed when he caught sight of the cigarette in Cas' hand.
"Actually its me, my mom, and my brothers now..." Cas trailed off, he didn't really know what else to say. It was starting to make his uneasy. "Well if you want you can come in for a while? I mean if you're not going back to school, I mean if you're not busy with something else, it's okay either way." Cas babbled and Dean just smiled and said "Sure."
They got out of Baby and Cas lead Dean to the back of the house. The back yard was grown over now but the remnants of what was once a well kept flower garden could still be seen. Weed infested flower beds, large withered potted plants, and a broken fountain filled with dried leaves in the center, and the whole property surrounded by a wooded area. They walked up into the back screened in porch and Cas kicked his shoes off and Dean followed and did the same. Cas realized that he'd never had a friend over in seeing Dean's work boots next to his Vans, it was odd to see.
They walked in out of the chilly air and Cas motioned to the kitchen. "Well this is it."
"It's nice," Dean said looking around. Sure this isn't what he had imagined when he pictured Cas' home but it wasn't so bad.
"Yeah sure, well thanks I guess. Come on we can just go to my room I suppose." Cas said leading the way up the staircase. Dean looked out of the french doors in the living room at all the bright light coming in, it was very calming and surprisingly beautiful.
"Okay what do you wanna do then? I mean its not everyday that you're off from school." Dean said and he was right. But Cas had no idea. Cas pictured his room then with him and Dean in it. Oh god, my dirty laundry is literally everywhere. Shit.
Cas lead Dean down the hall to the right, opposite Lucifer and Gabriel's rooms on the left.
"Umm actually will you wait here one second, I gotta move some stuff around. Sorry. Just hold on one second please," Cas slipped into his room leaving Dean in the hall was anxious to leave Dean alone in the hall but this room did in fact look like "A laundry hungry shit storm" had been present as Gabriel had so eloquently put it. He quickly threw the small mounds of dirty laundry and damp towels into the closet. He threw the blankets and pillows back into a straighter state on the bed and patted out the ripples. He went to his desk and stuffed all the random papers and pens into the drawers and then straightened his dresser drawers. He grabbed a spare lighter and light a few of the candles his grandmother sends annually for his birthday to cover the musty smell. He looked around, semi pleased. Oh look I have a floor.
Well its not gonna get any better. Shit he's still waiting.
