My New House (1)

As my mother loaded the last box onto our trailer, she called to me from outside. I looked around the once familiar room to see.. blank. Nothing was in there. No bed. No dresser.

The uninviting grey that now took up the space longed for color. Something. Any movement. I tugged on my sleeve. A tear slipped down my face. I heard the stairs creaking in an eerie manor, meaning my mother was coming to check up on me.

"A-Alice.. Sweetie?" She stammered

"Yeah.." I said in a subdued way.

"You ready to go?" She asked slipping into the room in silence.

I guess. She places her hand on my shoulder gently. She stays silent but I know what she was thinking. It's for the best.. but what if for once, she was wrong? What if staying was for the best?

I turn around and walk down the dimly lit hallway, one left and out the door from the kitchen. Once out front, I turn to see the dying cherry blossoms. I find a comfort in seeing the life failing to continue throughout a life form. It gave me reassurance that with death, there is life.
