That day and the next were uneventful. The King brought me food and worked on things at his desk, but we didn't share words.

He did, however, sleep in the bed again. I have a feeling we ended up in the same position as the night before but he woke up before I did so that would remain a mystery.

Kila, the lady doctor from before would be here sometime this afternoon. That information was given to me when I woke up, before he left the room. He hasn't been back, and judging by the way the light was filtering in through the top of the curtain, noon was around the corner.

Sighing, I sat in the chair behind his desk, looking over the papers that were mainly political things that I didn't understand. Politics was a big thing on Earth, but I never really cared too much to get involved. Sure, I had my own opinions, everyone did. I just didn't understand why everyone couldn't just get along.

Rolling my eyes I began opening drawers, snooping around.

I was bored, that was my excuse.

Nothing stood out to me as exciting in the top drawers, so I moved to the bottom ones. The first drawer held nothing but old files, but the second one seemed interesting.

Pictures and what looked to be letters were stacked neatly in two piles, and a wooden box with beautiful carvings was placed in front of the piles, near the front of the drawer.

Interested, I bent to pick up the first couple of pictures.

The King had his arm around a girl that looked like she was the same age as him, and before I could squash it down a feeling jealousy swirled up inside of me.

The girl was beautiful, with long dark raven hair and shining blue eyes. She was a little shorter than the King, and had the normal Lexalonian body type. Lithe and perfect.

Trying to get over myself, I looked at the next one. It was of the King, the girl, and an older couple. The King held attributes of the older couple, and I figured this had to be his parents. His face was set into a grim look, but the girl beside him was smiling widely. The woman behind the girl had her hand on her shoulder and had a smile that would've lit a room, but the man mirrored the King's look.

Maybe the girl was the King's sister? Why haven't I seen her?

Shaking my head, I put the pictures back down and stared at the box. Curiosity began eating at me, and I leaned over and reached for it. My fingertips skimmed the warm wood, but a voice clearing near the door hand me bolting upright, banging the back of my head on the desk in the process.

Groaning, I held my hand on the sore spot as tears popped into my eyes. The King was walking into the room with Kila behind him, and I could tell he wasn't happy.

"Why are you snooping around in my desk?" he asked as he rounded it and pulled the chair I was slouched in away from the desk. He grabbed my arm and pulled me into a standing position, and I rolled my eyes.

"I was bored," I replied, yanking my arm from his hand and turning to Kila. I smiled at the little alien and she smiled back, her eyes alight with a joy I couldn't fathom.

"How have you been, little one?" she questioned, beckoning me over.

I threw a nasty look at the King over my shoulder before walking over to the bed and sitting down. She had a medical bag over her shoulder, and laid it down next to me. Pulling out a bunch of medical tools she began inspecting me. I felt like I was in a doctor's office back home, waiting to get tested for the common cold or something. "I've been fine, between this asshat and dealing with the healing that is."

Kila laughed a full laugh and shook her head, tears forming in her huge eyes she casted a look to the King and a thing eyebrow rose in question. The King grumbled something and waved us off with a, "Just get her out of here."

Shaking her head, Kila went back to examining me, before she put her tools away. "Everything sounds normal and you seem to be healing nicely. However, there is something I need to discuss with you and the King here."

It was my turn to raise an eyebrow. Crossing my legs I made a motion for Kila to continue.

"When I was with you last I took a sample of your blood and a few other things to cross-reference. I have spoken with a few people you know. A couple of old guys, and a warrior. I think his name was Drav? Dran, something like that. Anyways, I realized there was no way you could possibly be fully human, and I was right." The smile on Kila's face spoke as many emotions as the shocked look on my own did.

"What do you mean you were right?" I questioned, feeling my world fall around me. Me? Not human?

Kila flitted her hands in the air and shook her head, "Nothing too crazy. You have Tethran in you. I am guessing it was on your father's side because it is taking over your human side."

Furrowing my eyebrows I tried to remember ever hearing of that race, but couldn't think of it. "Tethran?"

Kila nodded and smiled, "They were a hostile planet, but not long ago the ruler found his mate. Beautiful couple, really. But it would explain a few things about you. Tethran's are distant cousins of the Lexalonian's."

I blinked, not really understanding anything, and almost didn't catch the next thing she said.

"I really wouldn't even be surprised if you had a mate out there."

My head shook vehemently. The last few days when I wasn't doing anything, I took it upon myself to raid the King's dusty bookshelves. I read about mates. I read which species had them, which upheld the tradition, and what they meant to someone. "I am not made for someone else," I growled through clenched teeth, and Kila cocked her head at me.

"It's not always like that," she said calmly, "Tethran's respect a mate bond, and usually know right away. You probably wont even know if you meet your mate, not yet anyways. I will periodically come and check on you, but I suspect since you are off Earth that your father's side will take over."

I groaned, and shook my head. It wasn't like I could call up my dad and say, 'Hey padre, know anything about us having alien blood?'

Behind me, I heard the King clear his throat, and Kila gave him her attention. "So what does that mean about her?" he questioned.

"What are you asking? It is all very straight forward."

The King huffed, "You know what I mean Kila. If she is Tethran they will want her back to make sure she isn't a mate to one of theirs. It will start a war if they find out she is a slave here."

Kila laughed, "Then make her not a slave and invite them over for a dinner."

The King growled, "I am not in the mood to play nice with the Tethran's, Kila."

With a roll of her eyes Kila snapped, "Well I don't know what to tell you. Start a war if they find out. I am on my way there tomorrow anyways. They will smell her on me and know who has her. You make your choice, but don't be dumb about it."

Shocked at Kila's strong words, I watched as the little thing turned to me with a smile and a hug and left. The King was a cloud of angry energy, and I hopped off the bed ready to sneak by him and go into the bathroom.

Before I could clear him, he caught my arm. Sparks shot up, but I brushed them off as his angry energy. His lips were pursed as he looked down at me, and he growled out, "I will have Lin come in a bit. We will figure it out."

Blinking up at him I nodded before bolting into the bathroom.

I just couldn't believe I wasn't human.
