A. Hmm… I grew up alongside Harry Potter, so I think I do revere J.K. Rowling. Perhaps a bit too much.
(lol! We all do.)
11. If you were a newbie, which part of the story would you focus on most?
A. Characters. It hasn’t changed. I love to immerse myself in the characters’ shoes and know them as people. I still haven’t grasped the art of developing a realistic and deep character yet, but it’s really important to make the reader want to learn about the characters, feel like they know them as friends, and care about what happens to them.
12. Which is your favorite character (off Wattpad) ?
A. Oh, damn. I have lots. Probably Bella Swan. Just kidding, haha! I’m torn between Lyra Belacqua from “His Dark Materials” and Kestrel from “The Wind on Fire”. Both very gutsy and powerful young female main characters.
(lol! For a minute there I almost believed you :))
13. If you were given a choice to become one character (of your story posted on Wattpad) which one would you be and why?
A. Oooh, hot-headed telekinetic or innocent magician? I think I might go for the telekinetic. Tora from “Seeker” can pack a punch and can move things with her mind, and she kicks demon butt. I wish my life was as interesting as hers!
14. Do you prefer dark romance or the usual?
A. I’m really not a romantic person. I’m too impatient about the build-up and the “Will he? Won’t he?” aspect and I’m rather emotionally insensitive. So I’m not a fan of romance, either. Even a dash of it in a story to spice things up can be too much for me, sometimes.
15. Where do you look for your inspiration?
A. Everywhere, but media helps especially. “The Windcaster” is influenced heavily by Studio Ghibli’s work and the storyline is somewhat inspired by aspects of anime such as “Fullmetal Alchemist”. Seeing certain characters in media can inspire some of my own, too.
16. What’s your favorite TV show?
A. “Fullmetal Alchemist”. One of my favourite :)
(Even though it is a sort of sad story, I do love it ! I like the 'Philosopher's Stone' concept which they have used in the anime.)
17. Do you prefer more reads, votes or comments?
A. I prefer all three, but comments are the most valuable. It really provides insight as to how the reader feels. I know a lot of them feel like they’re just stating what the previous commenter says (therefore what they want to say is obsolete) or they have nothing contributory to the comment section, but even a “great chapter” or “I like this” can really motivate writers. I’m sure all writers feel the same.
18. Imagine the world is collapsing around you, what would you choose to save – technology or books?
A. I’m from a medical background, so I’d save technology. Books can’t save lives, but a defibrillator might. (I have a slight feeling I’m missing the question here…)
(lol! yes, you are but it's alright :) you answered it the best way you could.)
19. What is the best advice you have given and received?
A. “Don’t stop writing”. I’ve given that advice myself. If you stop, you won’t improve. Practise makes perfect—or as close to that as you can make it. Even the best writers improve after each novel. Reading back on my completed works, I’ve come a long way in terms of my skills as a wannabe-writer. Admittedly I’d also progressed through teenage years and aged about 7 years since the start of my previous book… but still.
20. Any extra tips for our young writers?
A. Read, lots of reading. Read good books, read bad books. See what’s being done right, what’s being done wrong, how different people do the same thing differently, and what works for you. Then absorb their experience and utilise it to your full advantage. Everyone started at rookie level—I haven’t really progressed far from that starting point!—and if you don’t see how the professionals do it, how are you supposed to learn? :) Don’t be afraid to ask if you’re unsure, otherwise you won’t learn. And best of luck, don’t be put off by comments. What doesn’t kill us only makes us stronger!
