-Laelyn-

"Beckham? She chose you over me?"

I was startled awake by the shout. Eyes wide, I bolted upright and looked around the bus for the cause. When I realized what was going on, I held my head in my hands. Chanson and Beckham were talking, and with the expressions on their faces, I'd assume this wasn't a friendly discussion.

"She's not even from this dimension, what do you care?" Beckham replied, making Chanson even angrier.

"I care because she's the same person. Just because she doesn't remember me doesn't mean I don't remember her," Chanson said.

"That's not even possible. She's from a different dimension, how could she be the same?"

"You're the same, too."

"What?"

"Following her around everywhere, practically begging her to notice you. It's disgusting. I just can't believe she picked you."

Before Beckham could respond, I jumped out of my seat and rushed to the other side of the bus, putting a hand on his shoulder.

"What's going on?" I asked. Chanson looked at me with anger in his eyes. No, not anger... Pain? Surely I hadn't hurt him that badly, I wasn't even the girl he knew...

"What's going on is that you left me for this idiot," Chanson grumbled.

"Don't call him that," I replied calmly.

"Well, don't you remember when - oh, wait. You don't remember anything, apparently," he remarked, creating air quotations with his fingers.

"What, so now you don't believe us?" Beckham asked.

"No, I don't. You said you were from a different dimension, but you're exactly the same. Maybe this is all a hoax," Chanson surmised. "None of us even saw this... This demon, that you say stole Link. It's just... It's not very believable."

"If this has anything to do with me and Laelyn, then don't even-" Beckham started.

"Oh sure, because everything has to do with you, right? Don't give yourself so much credit," Chanson spat. "Something about the story just doesn't add up."

I couldn't think of anything to say that would make this better, so I sat down again. Beckham followed me to do the same. He looked angry, but also... Some emotion I couldn't place. As if something Chanson said was right.

"You okay?" I asked.

"Not really, no," he admitted. "What if he's not the only one who doesn't believe us?"

"Beck, I'm sure that-" I began, before she was cut off by a shout.

"Brent? Brent can you hear me?"

I turned quickly to the source of the shout and saw Joshua sitting next to Brent, who had seemingly fallen down. I rushed over and sat next to them.

"What happened?" I asked. Josh ran a hand through his hair.

"I-I don't know, he just fell back and now he isn't responding..."

We shook Brent's shoulders gently, trying to get some sort of response, when all of the sudden his eyes snapped open. I almost sighed in relief before I realized... His eyes were completely black. I looked to Josh, then back to Brent, who had sat straight up. Screaming, I backed away quickly, running into Beckham.

"Lyn, what's-" Beck started, before backing up as well. Brent had begun walking towards us, his eyes still black on his emotionless face. Everyone on the bus had either screamed or gone completely silent - except Brent, who had begun to speak in a terrible, all too familiar voice.

"You think you can fool me?" The voice said. This was definitely not Brent. "I saw you coming the second you left... Taking your pathetic brother back won't be as easy as you'd like." Once it had delivered its message, the voice let out a shrill laugh so high-pitched that everyone on the bus had to cover their ears. Then, as suddenly as it began, it stopped. Brent's eyes closed again and he fell back, Josh rushing forward to catch him before he hit the ground.
