i. sight
she looked like fire and ice,
like a bitter winter morning and a sweet spring evening,
like a beauty and a beast spun into one girl,
like a demon and an angel battling for dominion,
like a caterpillar spinning its cocoon,
and a butterfly taking its first flight.
scars as jagged as a knife covered her face on one side,
and the other was soft as a petal, svelte like a dancer.
most people would turn away when they saw those defects,
but he was bereft from the moment he looked upon her.
