Chapter Four

I continue to cry into my pillow.

Do I really deserve what I've gotten?

I think back to this morning.

Everything was perfect.

Nothing could have gone better.

I mean, today is the day I've been waiting for my entire life.

My sixteenth birthday.

A dream come true.

Until Alexander Ashmore had to ruin it.

"Good morning, mom!" I chirp happily, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"Good morning, Aubrey! Happy birthday!" Mom exclaims, pulling me into one of those bone crushing hugs of hers. I return it, not complaining. "Thanks, mom," I tell her, another smile on my face. "Now sit down and eat some breakfast before you go off to school." Mom demands nicely. I can't help but smile at her and let out a little laugh.

"Where's John?" I ask, waiting for him to come down. "Who knows. I know he didn't stay over at Laura's because of your birthday being today. I am sure once the smell of food hits him, he'll be down as quick as possible. Just like your father." Mom answers with a little laugh. I shake my head with a smile and continue eating my food.

"Good morning, my little sister," John states as he walks down the stairs. "Good morning, John," I reply, not bothering looking behind me. "No. You're supposed to say 'good morning, my big brother'." John states, sitting beside me. I groan knowing he won't leave me alone until say what he wants me to. Always been like that he has. "Good morning, my big brother," I say, cringing as I do so. "That's more like it! Also, happy birthday." John exclaims, also pulling me into a hug.

"Any tingling going on?" John questions his eyebrows wiggling. Actually, something in me is kinda tingling. Like my inner wolf is super excited about something. Or someone. I haven't even shifted into my wolf, but I can feel her within me. But I am not telling anyone about it. I am not wanting to meet my mate yet. "Nope. No unusual tingling going on. Just excited." I lie to him. Knowing he'll take my lies. I don't lie often, but when I do, I am a very, very good liar.

"That's good because I don't want to be kicking anybody right away," Dad says from behind us. "Right there beside ya, dad," John confirms. I roll my eyes at the two men in my life. "Morning, dad," I say, turning around to give him a hug. "Morning, birthday girl," Dad says, then giving me a kiss on the cheek.

I look around to make sure I've grabbed everything that I need for school. Technically, I don't even have to go to school today. School gives the day off on sixteenth birthdays. But I have nothing better to do. My parents are working as well as John. I don't feel like staying at home all day.

So what do I do?

Go to school.

That's how you know your life is pretty dull.

The tingling in my body is becoming more and more tingly every second. And it's driving me crazy.

Tingles and sparks erupt throughout me as I bump into someone. My wolf repeating 'mate' over and over again. I look up to see a pair of blue eyes looking into my green ones. "Mate." We both whispered in unison.

Alexander.

Future Alpha Alexander Ashmore is my mate.

Great.

Just great.

"I am so sorry. I didn't see you there." I say as I start to gather my books up. "It's fine, Aubrey," Alexander says in forced words.
