Chapter 1 - Exams and Rumors

"Hey Janet!" Caroline called from across the cafeteria, "did you hear about the transfer student that's suppose to be coming to our school soon."

I laughed because that was the only thing anybody has been talking about for days. "Yes, I've heard," I replied smiling.

"Well did you know that he is supposed to be really cute," she replied crossing her arms and sitting down. Actually that was another thing that everyone talked about, but I think I'd better give her some credit.

"No I didn't know that," I commented. "On a scale of 1-10 how hot would he be?"

"An 8," Caroline replied after a little bit of thought.

"Why is he only an 8?" I asked her. Usually when she's this excited about a guy, he's usually a 9 or a 10.

"There have been some...rumours going around about him and his 'bad habits'," she put bad habits in air quotations.

"What do you mean by 'bad habits'," I asked her, copying the air quotations around bad habits. She just looked at me and I thought about it for half a second more. "No, really?" I asked and she nodded. "Well like what: drugs, alcohol, smoking..."

"Oh no, nothing like that," Caroline replied, and then she thought about it for a second. "At least I don't think it's anything like that."

She shrugged and started eating her sandwich. Now I was curious. What is his name? What is he like? What does he look like? I slowly picked through my food, thinking as I ate. I guess the only thing I can do is be patient and wait until he arrives. Then I can make my opinion on him.

By the end of the week that was what everyone was talking about. I heard several different rumours from his father being a drunk to him being in the witness protection program. But I wouldn't know what to be true until I actually met him and maybe got to now him. Because all of this may be completely false, or it could all be true.

In the afternoon our teacher told us that he was coming a week Monday. That got everyone buzzing with excitement, and for the next two weeks they just wouldn't shut up about him. More and more rumours were spread; they seemed to grow like wildfire. Even the teachers got in on the gossip and rumours.

When the final days came the rumours only intensified. I had to study for exams which in all the commotion some people forgot were coming up. They were on the same week as the new arrival that was supposed to come to the school. I am not one of those people who, so easily, get caught up in the gossip.

A/N: Sorry its kind of a short beginning but the chapters should get a bit longer as we go :) what do you think so far?
