Chapter 17

Ew. It's Tuesday. Since we had nothing to do today, me and DJ decided to go paint balling. I was walking around in boy shorts and a bra when I heard a knock on the door. I knew it was DJ and I'm not even dressed. Shit. I looked through the peephole to see him standing there.

I opened the door slightly and poked my head out.

"Hey, you ready?" he asked.

"Uh, about that. You would consider us pretty good friends by now, right?" I asked.

"Yeah, why?"

"Because I'm not dressed, so I hope this ain't awkward."

I opened the door all the way and let him in.

"Damn girl," he said taking off his shades.

"Don't do that!" I said walking toward my room, "just pretend like you didn't even see this."

"That's gonna be kinda hard!"

"I'm sure you'll figure it out!"

I put on some jean shorts and a gray v-neck with gray converse. Something simple for today. I got my keys and phone, then walked out the room.

"Alright, let's go," I said walking toward the front door.

We got in the car and drove off.

"I'm excited. I can't wait to shoot the shit outta you with these paintballs," I said.

"Ahaaa, well see about that," he said back.

We laughed and he turned up the music.

"'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now "

I looked at him slowly, "is this what you and Blake listen to when yall ride together?"

"Yep," he laughed.

"Well ok then," I said shaking my head.

Any other time I would probably complain about this song choice, but today I just shut up. But I'm gonna need them to do better.

We pulled to the place then went inside. I put my hair up in a ponytail and then put on the gear.

"Alright let's do this!" I yelled.

We got outside and walked in separate directions. DJ pointed his gun at me and I ran to hide behind a wall. I poked my head out and he shot at me, but missed. I shot at him, then missed. I ran to another wall and shot at him again. I managed to hit him twice. I ran to hide behind a boulder, but DJ shot me while I was running. I ran toward him and started shooting. I hit him a couple times, and then he got me a couple times. I hid behind another boulder without him seeing me. I snuck up behind him and shot him a few times. After we shot each other little more, we left.

"You know I got you, right?" I said to DJ smiling.

"Whatever," he said giving me the hand, "what do you wanna do now?"

"Let's go to the park. I need to talk to you," I said as we walked back to his car.

We got to the park and went straight to the benches.

"So what'd you wanna talk about?" DJ asked.

I didn't know how to say it. As soon as I went to open my mouth, the words got stuck and it felt like my throat closed up.

This was gonna be hard.

She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. I think I knew what she was gonna say.

"You like Blake, don't you?" I asked.

"How'd you guess?" she asked with a somber expression.

"Well after that day at the park and all that flirting at his house the other day, I kinda figured it out."

"Oh. Well, you better not say anything!"

"I won't, but you should," I said.

"You're funny. I ain't tellin' him shit," she said.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because I'm not a fan of rejection," she said looking down.

I put my hand on her shoulder, "I don't think you have to worry about getting rejected."

"What do you mean?"

"In case you hadn't noticed, he likes you too."

"Stop lyin.'"

"I ain't lyin'. You mean to tell me you really didn't know?!" I asked loudly.

"No! I thought he was just one of those guys who flirts with their girl friends!"

"That nigga is basically in love with you, Bri. Why do you think he's taking you golfing Saturday?"

"Because I asked him to," she said. She looked like she was still trying to wrap her head around all of this.

"Yeah, because YOU asked him. He hates golf, but he's willing to do it for you."

"Then why didn't he say anything!" she sounded really upset.

"The same reason you won't say anything-he's afraid of rejection," I said trying to calm her down.

"Ughhhhh what should I do?" she asked. She was obviously frustrated.

"When you go out with him Saturday, tell him," I said putting my arm around her.

She looked up at me like she was scared.

"Don't worry, it'll be fine," I reassured her.

She put her head on my shoulder.

"I sure hope so."
