A/N: I'm updating twice tonight, here's the first ;) Liam gif and a song for the chapter to the side!
"Hey Harry." I said weakly, a single bag hanging from my shoulder.
He stood there in his doorway, alcohol on his breath, wearing a white tshirt with oil stains on it (from the auto shop no doubt), looking absolutely dumbstruck. Well of course he was dumbstruck, I showed up at his doorway in the middle of the night without any warning. Not to mention this was my first time at his apartment.
"What are you..." He began, "I just...the hell?"
I sighed, rolling my eyes. He wasn't going to make this easy for me at all, was he? Without a word, I walked past him and into his apartment. I heard the door click behind me as I dropped my bag and turned to him, crossing my arms and looking down at my shoes.
"My mom told me about a hundred times where you lived when I was here, don't think I'm a stalker or anything." I said in a quiet voice, not making eye contact with him. I grimaced as I looked around his apartment, bottles littered around.
He said nothing, just looked at me like I was an alien.
"Well?" I asked exasperatedly, raising my hands. "You gave me that whole spill on the phone about coming back to you and here I am."
"You what?" Harry shrieked, his voice so much higher than it usually was that he started to have a coughing fit. "You're here for...me?" He finally choked out.
"No Harry, I'm here because I wanted frozen yogurt." I said sarcastically. "Of course I'm here for you, why the fuck else? All that shit you said on the phone I just..."
He stared at me silently, his eyes big. I sighed, relaxing my shoulders.
"I'm sorry, oh gosh I'm sorry." I ran my hands over my face. "I'm just...I don't know what to do. I came here and I left a note on my apartment door, and nobody knows, and I'm doing it all over again and I'm freaking out and I think you were right on the phone about people not changing and I don't know who I am and I have no idea what I'm doing!"
"Hey, hey, easy." Harry shushed me, walking up to me and wrapping his arms around my shoulders. I hesitated at first, but eventually gave in and hid my face in his shoulder, tears running down my face. "It's fine, I'll take care of you."
For some reason, I couldn't help but think he sounded a little too happy about my distress.
"So, uh, where's the um...the - "
"Ring?" I cut Harry off, my legs curled up beside me on his couch. I sighed, pulling out an old chain necklace from under my shirt, the diamond ring on the end of it. "I'm not putting it on my hand if that's what you're expecting."
"No of course not." He said quickly, setting his drink down in front of him and scratching the back of his head. Liam has that same nervous habit.
"So does your mum know you're back?" Harry asked, startling me back into reality. "She's going to be thrilled you know. I went to your house earlier today because she wanted to give me a birthday present, and she seemed more stressed than usual."
I laughed humorlessly, picking at my thumbnail. "Of course she got you a present. What'd she get you?"
"Just a button up shirt." He shrugged. "Happy birthday by the way."
"Yeah...happy birthday to us." I murmured.
"Carter." Harry said softly, putting his hand on mine. I looked up at him to see his intense gaze on me. "This is a good thing. We're going to go back to how things were. How they're supposed to be. You did the right thing coming back home, back to me. Pretty soon you'll forget all about the past three years you were gone."
