A/n: This chapter takes place 6 years before the first episode, before Wiess learned how to fight.

Abandoned, alone and stranded in a kingdom that all but took pride in putting down your kind. You sat in the cold snow of one of the Schnee Dust Company (SDC) ports at the edge of Atlas. Staying in the slums where most of the Faunus in Atlas stay was too depressing and only reminded you of the White Fang and everything else you had left behind.

The snow that blanketed the port wasn't much of a problem, being a wolf you could even enjoy it while wearing only the rags you had on as long as you didn't move around too much or waste unneeded energy, which was fine since you only moved a few times a day to steal enough food to keep you from going hungry. You hated having to steal from someone to feed yourself, but you didn't have any money or skills aside from fighting, add that to being a Faunus and it became impossible to make a living in Atlas. Every day you would move to a new spot in the port that gave you a good view that you could lose yourself to.

Up until a few months ago you had been a member of the White Fang with Adam Taurus, he wasn't you biological brother, but you both grew up together with him always acting as your big brother. Though left him behind when you realized he was after supremacy over the humans not equality like you had been told before. Your heart couldn't take staying there knowing all you were doing was creating an endless cycle of hate for the two species.

You couldn't even go back to Menagerie because of all the guilt you felt for betraying him, everything there would remind you of your time with him and you knew you couldn't handle it.

Atlas for all its faults was one of the safest kingdoms thanks to its environment, you could find a good place to hide here until you figured out what to do next.

The only thing you had left that was actually yours in this world were your weapons. A short sword and its sheath that doubled as a pistol (similar to Adams sword and rifle), but they were pale reflections of what they were before. The way they were now you were afraid they'd break if you actually used them to fight. You could barely feed yourself so maintaining the weapons you were so proud of was too much for you in your current state.

You had nowhere to go or anyone to return to... only Adam, but you betrayed him the day you ran away and now every time you thought of him your heart would tighten and you'd feel sick from the weight of the guilt. If nothing else your days were quiet so you could easily just forget about everything and relax with whatever view you found for the day.

Though today was different, you had barely woken up when you heard a large explosion come from one of the airships. You ran to see what it was, feeling how sluggish your body had become from when you were in you able to actually take care of yourself. Before you could run for hours without feeling tired and still be able to fight without needing to rest. Now however, simply jumping a few rooftops already had you panting for breath. It was humiliating enough to make you hate the you of a few months ago.

When you finally got to where the explosion had come from you saw an airship crashed into the ground, still on fire while troops of the White Fang had come out and started fighting with the Atlas military.

It felt like time had frozen still. You had a chance to go back to your old life. A chance to act as if the last few months was just you being childish and acting out. But you couldn't do it.

You just stood there watching the fight from above as both sides seemed to be tied in terms of force. You gripped your sword in your hand as you tried to think of what you should do.

"Weiss! Get back now!" You heard a woman call out from the Atlas side of the fight.

You looked around behind her and saw a girl hide behind some boxes. She was so scared that she hid her face in his chest trying to drown out the fight around her.

You were surprised to see a girl that seemed about your age here, but then you recognized her as Weiss Schnee. Everyone in the White Fang knew of the Schnee family and hated them.

You glanced back at the White Fang side and saw one of them bring out a grenade launcher and had it aimed at the girl hiding near her sister

"Damn it!" You roared to yourself as you grabbed your sword from you side and jumped down in the path of the rocket.

You landed in front of her and batted the rocket away to the side where it exploded away from everyone.

"Are you safe?" You asked, looking over your shoulder to see her curled up behind me.

She both looked up at me still shaking and slowly lifted up her head to see me. "Y-yes, thank y..." Weiss spoke up before going silent and pointing at me. "A tail! Winter one of them got past you!" She shouted at seeing your (H/c) tail wag down.

You were used to being treated like this when people realized you were a Faunus, but it was still annoying and hurtful every time it happened. You ignored her and started running to the fight in front of you.

"What, how could I miss one?" Winter looked back at you confused as she kept shooting down the White Fang members.

"Excuse me." You said running past her and then jumped at one of the White Fang and cut him down with a single strike.

You didn't know how you were doing it but somehow you were able to hold your own against the entire group as they swarmed around you. You slashed anyone who got close to you and shot down any who tried to attack you from behind. Your sword was still able to cut through them easily, but you worried every time you blocked an attack that it would break in two. Even your pistol only had a few more rounds in it before you ran out, luckily you still had your aura to protect you from the attacks you were to slow to block.

After fighting for a while you started feeling dizzy from wasting energy you didn't have. When you couldn't even stand anymore one of the White Fangs you were fighting kicked you down and knocked your weapons out of your hands as he pointed a gun to your head. Just before he could shoot you, you saw him get blown away by someone else. Winter had come to your rescue and you started fighting by her side when you got back up.

"Thanks for saving me." you said as you got up and stood next to her to fight the reaming White Fang.

"I owed you." she said calmly, fixing her fighting stance.

With just the two of you it was going to take far too long to beat all the enemies that were still around you so after finishing off a few more you decided to use your semblance to end the fight.

"Buy me some time!" you told Winter as you put your sword back in its sheath and started gathering your aura to use your power.

"What? I save you and now you just want to stand there?" she asked.

"Trust me!" you shouted before the White Fang got closer.

"I better not regret this."

"You won't."

Amazingly enough she was able to fight against all of the White Fang by herself, though she was only jumping around using quick attacks to keep them away from me instead of actually trying to defeat them. After having gathered all the power you had you stood up straight and got ready to use your power. "Jump as high as you can." You told her after seeing her beat back a few more enemies.

Obeying your command she crouched down and then jumped up, passing the roof you were standing on just before. You took a deep breath, hoping your body could take using the attack. Your (H/c) hair, (E/c) eyes and even parts of your clothes started glowing blue as the energy spread through you. Then in one quick movement you drew your sword, slashed in a perfect circle unleashing all your power on all the White Fang members who were still standing and sheathed your blade again.

Just as your attack was done Winter landed behind you and looked around to see the aftermath of your attack. "Impressive. I certainly wasn't expecting that." she said in a lighter tone than before as she walked up to you.

You were happy that your attack even worked with how bad of a condition your body was in. With the fight before and now using your semblance used up more strength than you had and now it was taking its toll on your body. You fell to your knees from exhaustion, the air in your throat felt cold and your vision blurred before finally blacking out.

When you woke up you were aying in a large bed with an IV in your arm and most of your body covered in bandages with some even covering a part of your mouth. You looked around the room and saw Weiss standing over you and walking around the bed.

"What are you doing?" you moaned as you spoke through the bandages on your mouth.

"Ah, I'm sorry I didn't mean to stare!" she yelped, stopping at the foot of the bed. "I've never seen a Faunus close up like this before. The only ones I've ever seen were like the ones who attacked us, but you're not like them, you're... you're..."

"Too handsome for words?" you teased her as you tried to sit up as she struggled to find a word to describe you.

"Different." She corrected you and walked over to help you. You smiled at each other from how you playing around.

"I see he's awake." Winter said as she walked in and greeted you both.

You properly introduced yourself and told them about what you had been through, keeping only a few things about Adam secret.

"Winter we can't just leave him in the streets after he helped us. Isn't there anything we can do?" Weiss begged her sister.

"I think I might be able to convince father to let him stay here with you, would you be ok with that Weiss?" Winter smiled at her.

"You don't need to do that. I'll be fine on my own." You told them.

"You're mistaken if I'm offering you charity. I'm going to ask my father to give you job protecting my sister." She smiled while Weiss and I stared at her with our mouths wide open.

Winter took you and Weiss to her father's office and he immediately started yelling at the idea.

"You want me to let some stray Faunus protect my daughter?! Have you lost your mind Winter?! If you want to thank him so badly I'll cut him a check, but this is just insane!"

"I realize it might seem strange father, but (Y/n) is an incredible fighter Weiss will be safe with him."

"If you think he's a good fighter then take him to Ironwood! Why do have to open my home to him and trust him with my daughter?!"

Winter and her father kept arguing in front of you and Weiss as if neither of you even there.

"Would you actually be ok with me protecting you?" you asked her quietly, no to let either of them hear you.

"I'd actually prefer someone like you over the guards my father constantly has over me. Would you be ok with protecting me?" she asked hiding her mouth with her hand.

"I've never protected anyone before, but I'd like to try something other than simply fighting for violence." You told her.

You smiled at each other again and then finally came back to Winter and her father.

"If you want to do something 'noble' I suggest you handle it yourself without having to drag others into it." He said slamming his fist on the desk.

"You know father hiring him would actually help you more than you know." Winter said in a persuasive tone.

"And how is that?" he asked, but Weiss and I were just as confused.

"The attack at the port will be on the news and there are people who saw him fighting against the White Fang with me. Imagine how good the Schnee family would look hiring the hero who helped protect its property all the while ignoring that he's a Faunus. All that bad press and all those ugly rumors about how the Faunus are treated here wouldn't be able to touch you. He'll protect Weiss while helping you repair the family name." Winter gave a satisfied smile while her father started thinking on what she said.

You and Weiss were surprised again by how amazing her sister was. She had just played her father and he didn't even realize it.

"I suppose... having someone with his skills would to keep Weiss safe is the best option and I can't very well let someone who saved my daughters live on the street. Very well, he can stay as Weiss's body guard, but I'll be keeping an eye on him." Winter bowed to him to show her gratitude and you and Weiss did the same before leaving the room.

"There you go, you're welcome. Don't let me down you two." Winter said before she started leaving the manor.

"Well that just happened." Weiss said still unsure of how Winter had won over her father.

"I shall do my best to protect you my lady." You said playfully and bowed to her.

"Yes... well, I shall be in your care from now on." She played along and stood up straight.

You both looked at each other and started laughing from how silly your game was. For the first time in a long time you felt safe and happy again as you were with someone who embraced you as you were.
