Chapter 18

I looked at myself in the front mirror of the car a bunch of times wondering if what I was wearing was fine for the get together...mixer...whatever the hell they want to call what I am going to. I flashed back to me and Levi's conversation this morning after our shower.

"She's pretty cool," Levi said pulling on his white practice pants. "She was very interested in knowing more about you."

I cocked an eyebrow at him, pulling my robe tighter around my bare body. "Why? What is so interesting about me?" I questioned.

He smirked as he walked toward me, bending down so that his face was right in front of mine. I put a hand gently on his bare chest and the other on his face. "What is there not to be interested in?"

I smiled and kissed him softly before he stood back up walking across the room to retrieve his teal mariners jersey. "Baby, will I even fit in? I mean honestly, I am not the...I'm not their type. I'd rather drive a beat up truck than a brand new sports car, though I do love the Audi. I prefer to only wear the beautiful necklace and engagement ring and not some gawdy jewlery. Plus, I'm not very materialistic. Will I even like them?"

He looked at me with his shirt open making me smile as I stood up and walked toward him. I began buttoning up his shirt for him as he looked down at me. "Babe," he said softly, using his index finger to lift my chin up to him just as I finished buttoning up his jersey. "You don't need to try and fit in. If you don't like them you know I can always get you a seat above the dugout or whereever you want. You don't have to sit in the box room they have reserved for the wives and girlfriends of the players. But, I can tell you that Megan is similar to you in many ways. She seemed pretty down to earth when I met her. I think she is genuinely interested in you because she knows you will be very different from the women of the other players."

I smiled softly at him, looking away before looking back up at him. "Okay, I guess I jumped to conclusions about her but I can't promise to play nice if those women even for a second seem fake or superficial. You know I can be very sarcastic and will probably mock them."

He chuckled. "Well, to tell you the truth, they probably won't even notice, baby."

I laughed as I turned away to go back and sit on the bed. "So, José is picking you up, right?"

He grinned at me in the mirror as he tucked in his jersey. "Yup, and you're picking me up at 5." I nodded bitting my bottom lip to hold back a smile. He bent down slipping on his navy blue sneakers. "Alright, then," he said walking over to me before kissing me soft and long then grabbing his bag with his glove and cleats walked out of the door.

I opened then door of the Audi and walked up the gravel drive way to the huge white house, If you asked me it looks more like a mansion than some summer home. I walked up the steps before stopping in front of the dark brown door, I took a deep breath before pressing the white door bell button.

I turned away from the door looking out a the big yard, playing with my engagement ring when I heard the door open. "Brielle!" Megan's voice rang out happily. I looked over my shoulder at her smiling softly.

"Hi."

"Hey," she said walking over to me to give me a warm hug. "Welcome to my humble abode," she said grinning as she led me into the house. "I'm gonna give you a tid bit about all the ladies before we go into the backyard. So of them are like you and I, down-to-earth and simplistic, the rest are very superficial. If you complement their rings or anything that you know they got as a result of the man they're with," she snapped her fingers, "instant friends. You, me, and Rochelle are the only women who met their man before they went pro, some of the other women who aren't superficial you'll notice immediately. I know this won't be easy for you but I wanted to introduce you to them before the first regular season game because I know I wish I had someone who'd done this for me when José first went pro."
