She tries to run but she always freezes,
Always right before the final stride;
It happens before the breezes,
Before the fear hits like a tide.

The fear that only she sees,
But one that has the power to control;
It brings her to her knees,
She feels depleted as if it were a toll.

Fear can do wonders to people,
It can take the most kind of us,
And make them disgusting people,
Fear does things we can't discuss.

While she's frozen she shakes,
She tries to fight it,
But it's all around, making her ache,
But she cannot quit.

She begins to rise but is forced down,
She knows her fear is strong,
She knows it can't be put down,
But it can be put where it belongs.

She rises again but resists her fear,
Her fear told her that she can't beat it,
She knew that she couldn't beat fear,
So she decided to coexist with it,
It was time for her to stop running from her fear because she knows now that it won't beat her and she can't beat it. It was time for her to break free of the constraints of fear and move on to greater things. She broke free of her fear and her fear fled back to the darkness. She felt full again, she felt good. The fear was still there but not haunting her. She walked forward. She walked to the future. She walked to freedom.
