"Youngjae-ah," called Sunhwa excitedly while she held up the phone to her eye level, "Come, you're mom wants to talk to you."

He lazily got up his bed and went as per his grandmother's request. So, Sunhwa handed the phone to him and excused herself to the bathroom.

"My son," Misook started, smiling at him as she adjusted the scarf around her neck so it wouldn't muffle her voice. "How are you doing?"

Youngjae could only smile at her, but she noticed it wasn't the sad smile he usually wears. It was a relief on her part, knowing she made the right decision to send him back to Mokpo.

"Ah, I heard from your Halmeoni you made a friend with a girl. How does she look like?"

As if timing is on his side, Sunhwa got out from the bathroom and Youngjae immediately approached her to give the video call back. He gestured outside and wore his jacket, which she knows he meant he will be meeting Wonhye.

He checked the time again, tapping his foot at every millisecond, sixteen minutes had passed and still there was no sign of her. She should be out by now so she won't be late for her shift at the convenience store.

"Hey, kid," called the guy in thick reading glasses, "You're Wonhye's boyfriend, right? She didn't come to class today," he stated before walking past Youngjae.

And so, Youngjae wasn't able to correct him.

.

Holding a piece of paper which indicates her address, Youngjae looks up at the seemed like abandoned apartment building that houses a few residents in Mokpo. The building was worn-out after long years of no renovation, so that mainly explains its structure and condition. He stuck the paper back in his pocket, memorizing their apartment's number.

When he reaches the second floor, he clearly heard screams and clanks of metals from one unit. He frowned at the noise and immediately walked off towards the very last unit, her place. He knocked thrice but there seemed to be no person inside, so he stepped back, deciding to just go home when he heard a wail. He tilted his head before knocking once again; then, the same wail was heard.

The door was pushed open, creaking at every movement. Youngjae's eyes roamed around the small area with little home furniture, the most basic things needed in a house. His eyes went to the shuffling from the corner, tilting his head of what was it. He slowly went to see what it was.

Then a faint voice said, holding out its hand from the blanket, gripping on Youngjae's hand, "Noona, don't leave me." He almost fell on his butt, he was expecting a cat or a dog since the wail not long ago resembles an animal wail.

He pulled the blanket off the child's face and noticed that he was shivering. He was on panic, clearly the little boy is sick and he had no one to look after him. Where is Wonhye? Shouldn't she be looking after him?

"Noona," his eyes started to flutter open, realizing it wasn't his older sister. He retrieved his hand, frightened of the intruder's presence, "Wh-Who are you?" He stammered.

Youngjae hurriedly fished his phone out of his jacket and typed what he wanted to say. The child tilted his head, confused of what he is doing instead of speaking. He showed him the text, introducing himself and asking of his sister's whereabouts, as to why she left him alone.

He stared at the phone blankly, "I don't know how to read yet, Ahjussi."

He frowned at his address because clearly he doesn't look like a middle-aged man, but he shrugged it off to get him medicine but had found none, so he settled for a cold damp cloth for his fever.

The little boy shivered when the cloth touched his forehead, "It's cold," he groaned, pouting, as he tried to move away but Youngjae kept him still. Another than paracetamol, this is the only way he knew that reduces fever.

Later, the door creaked open, along with a voice that clearly owns by her, "Joohyun-ah, Noona's back," as she kicked her shoes off her feet. She placed the pack of medicine and a plastic of instant noodles on the table when she noticed the other's presence, "Youngjae?"

Youngjae, being a heavy sleeper wherever he goes to sleep in, didn't stir a little when she gently patted his arm. He was kept still in his sitting position, back against the cold cement, head bobbing forward in sleep.

Wonhye could only giggle at the sight of the silent neighborhood guy, "How did you come here, anyway?" Because she didn't remember telling him where she lived; in fact, she doesn't have the plan. She turned to the kid who just called him in his sleep again, she smiled, noticing the cloth on his forehead, "Thanks for taking care of Joohyun, Youngjae-ah." Being grateful as she is, she planted a light kiss on the latter's cheek, waking him from his light slumber.

She was frozen on her spot when Youngjae turned to look straight in her eyes, stammering, "I-I didn't mean to wake you, I'm sorry," then she instantly got on her feet.

"Noona?"

"Oh, Joohyun-ah, I'm here," Wonhye instantly crouched down to help the little boy sit, putting the pillow in between his back and the wall. "I'm sorry, did you wait that long?"

The night grew darker and they both knew it was time to bid their goodbyes for the day. "So," started her, "Thanks for today. I didn't expect you'll come here."

"It's nothing; I'll come back here tomorrow to bring medicine for him," he showed her what he typed on his phone. "And you could go to school while I watch over him."

"Huh? No. What about Halmeoni?"

Rubbing his nape, he came up with an idea, "How about you take him at home? I'm sure Halmeoni wouldn't mind."

It was totally a shame but if she wouldn't agree, that means she'll miss more days at school and at work. It would be much of a burden if that happens.

Sighing, she nodded, "Alright, we'll come before my class starts."
