Lauren Jauregui, the singer of course, has been with author Marcus Stone for 5 years and they have been married for 2 of those years. They were happily settled in a rural area of California so Lauren was never to far from work but they still could have the privacy they wanted. The holidays were coming up quickly which meant families everywhere and this year Lauren's family were coming up for the holiday to finally get to meet Marcus. The two couldn't be more excited although Lauren wanted to meet his family. For some reason he just wouldn't do it. It made no sense to her she understood that they grew up running from white people and Lauren and her entire family being white passing was going to be a difficult thing for them. His entire life his mother pictured him with a strong black woman of good name and good stature with strong morals and darkest complexion. Him finding a strong, fierce, talented, good moraled, well educated woman of a lightest complexion was not in the plan. He's Harvard educated, and well established for his work and research. Lauren is a multi-platnium selling recording artist with provocative dancing, an incredible voice, and huge following of fans. All she wanted was for him to be proud enough to show her off to his family and his friends. She never met any of his family members or friends besides his colleagues at the university. They all loved Lauren. They appreciated her perspective and though process and didn't discriminate against her because of her occupation. They in fact hated people who were bat far up their own asses to ignore someone's point of view just because they were in a more popular and less academically based field. Marcus worked at an all black college like his mom dreamed for him where he teaches anthropology and literature on the side of writing his own books and doing his own research. His friends also never cared that she was a white passing Latina because it's 2016 and love is love. Love sees no color. Which is why she wants to tell his parents because he never knows if they would accept him. Anyways things are about to get hella complicated so just enjoy the ride.

Marcus's pov
I sat in my office beside my beautiful wife working on grading some papers while she read the draft for my latest book. She always loved to make edits ok my work to as she put it 'give it some more taste.' And rid it of any left behind or over looked misogynistic opinions. I always made sure to look o get her sign as well for unintentional grammatical errors. We're a team always.
She looked beautiful with the highlighter in her hand and pen above her ear. Her hair tied up in a messy bun two strands framing her face. Her pinky locked with mine from over our desks which was fine although difficult cause I'm right handed. Still worth it to have contact with her.
The home phone rang and I immediately answered it.
"Hello."
"My son how are you?" I hear my moms southern accent thick. She grew up in Louisiana but she's always been a Jersey girl at heart since she moved there at age 20 when she had me about 2 years later.
"Mom how are you?" I stand up and walk out the door after seeing Lauren roll her eyes from her peripheral.
"I can't wait to see you this Christmas. Your cousins are coming over too. "
"Oh right mom about that I'm spending Christmas up here."
"What why?"
"I just have a lot going on. I've got midterms to grade and other papers that I'm really behind on. I have things going with my new research. Jojo's sick. It's just a bad time to be going all the way to New Jersey. Across the entire country." Jojo is me and Lauren's dog. He's a husky.
"But it's Christmas."
"It is I know just not this year. Next year yeah?"
"Well ok."
"I'm sorry momma I'll make it up to you I promise."
"It's ok. I guess."
"Thank you."
"I just had a genius idea. What if we come to you. Yes it'll be perfect."
"No I have work and Jojo and..."
"Nonsense you can still get your work done no worries. We will stay out of your way when you need to work and have you around only for traditions."
"No no"
"Why don't you want your mother at your house?"
"I do bu..."
"Good we'll be on the earliest flight for tomorrow."
"O-ok."
"Bye son."
"Bye mom." I curse myself under my breathe and then rented the room. Lauren us still in her spot still reading.
"How was your call trying to explain your life without mentioning your wife to your mother." She says with so much sass.
"Uhm well you see she's coming up for Christmas and..." she snaps her head up.
"What?"
"She's coming up for the holidays with I guess my dad and little sister."
"I get to meet them?" She asks with a huge smile.
"Yeah."
"I don't have to hide from them anymore?" She smiles even more. God I hate to wipe that of her face but I have to.
"No." her smile drops immediately.
"What?"
"So uhm I need to move your stuff in the living room into the garage."
"Are you kidding me?" She asks getting pissed.
"No. please baby I'll tell them it just need to do it ok my own time and will. It's going to be hard for them especially my mother."
"So you want me to take my placques off the walls, moon mans, surfboards, and others and throw them into the garage like they mean nothing."
"No place them neatly and store them away."
"Whatever. I'll sleep in one of the guest rooms while they're here."
"Thank you baby. I love you so much. I promise I'll make it up to you."
"Honestly you better."
"I will i promise."
She turns back to the page in front of her and continues reading.
"Babe?" She looks back up.
"Can you do it now?" I ask. And she rolls her eyes groaning before heading downstairs. I sigh and begin getting the house together. Everything needs to be absolutely perfect.
