CHRISTMAS EVE

I remember the day

The sun refused to shine

When we both couldn't say

What was on our minds

When the mistletoe hung above us

Yet we paid it no mind

I remember it clearly

The way the snow fell

My heart following suit slowly

No one could tell

No one could hear it shattering

The carols were too loud

And they still are

So when the snowmen are up

When the lights are blinking, flickering

And the children start singing

I can't help but think of you

Breaking my heart on Christmas Eve
