"Lia!" I jump, glaring at Sydney who smiles. "What are you doing here?"
I raise a brow. "Collecting my daughter. She is here right?"
"Oh, I never noticed." Sydney says, following me while I walk to Kayla's nursery. "So, how is life?"
"Alright, I guess." I say. "College isn't that great and I'm sick."
"Gross." Sydney steps back from me and I roll my eyes. "Don't make me sick."
"Its not that, I just have a little food poisoning."
Sydney hums. "Did Kyle cook?"
I laugh. "No." I say. "It could have been anything honestly."
Sydney nods and I enter Kayla's nursery. She's asleep, curled in ball in her bed. I smile, kissing her cheek as I begin to put her toys away.
"Sydney what do you want to tell me?" I ask, raising a brow. "You want something."
"Fine, has Max found a girlfriend yet?"
I smile as her face goes red. "No." I say, watching her take a deep breath. "He said he's going to be single until he finishes college."
Sydney frowns. "Great."
"I don't see why you don't ask him? You two did talk a lot before." I say, putting away the last toy and standing up.
"Yeah but then I got pregnant and the miscarriage blah..blah..." She shrugs. "Things got awkward."
I hum. "I get that." I say. "Well you could also go with someone else."
"Like?" She asks, cringing. "The guys at my school make me want to vomit. Sure some of them are hot but they're all players."
"So is Max." I say. "And Kyle was."
"Yeah but Max is somewhat different." She says, moving her hair out of her face. She's dressed in a pair of leggings with an oversized sweater, her hair thrown up.
So, its been around two months since Kayla's birthday and college has begun again. Its not fun and the season is changing to Autumn.
"How so?" I ask smile but it goes, my hand goes over my mouth and I pause. After a few seconds the nausea feelings goes and I sigh in relief.
Sydney cringes. "Keep your distance from me, Lia."
I laugh. "Sorry, I just smelt...." I pause and sniff. "Onion rings."
"Yeah, I got Clarissa to cook me some." Sydney says. "In the kitchen which is far away from this room."
I shrug. "Ok, well I need to go. Amanda has called me about something so important she can't say over the phone."
"Ooh, tell me the details." Sydney says.
"Of course, Sydney." I say. "Are you here alone?"
"No, my mum is outside. She wants to plant more flowers."
I nod. "Oh ok." I say, carefully picking up Kayla who whines. "Come on, Kayla. Let's get you home."
"Do you know anyone is amazing at History?" Sydney asks, following me to the front door. Kayla is more awake and I get her coat and shoes on.
"Yes, I do." I say. "My friend Theo, he's so smart. Why?"
"Could he possibly do my homework?"
I give her a stare and she laughs. "No, but he can help you. I'll ask him and then text you afterwards."
