It was easy for anyone to see that Nina was untrusting towards immortals. Alas, you can't blame her after nearly being raped by an incubus. Not to mention, every creature of evil seemed to have it out for the short, scrawny, black haired girl.
The man who seemed to hate her the most was Nathan, Elena's betrothed. He seemed to be some type of archdemon, a high ranking demon in hell, and something about Nina's existence rubbed him wrong. Nathan was easy to label as a control freak, he would order Nina and Elena around like dogs, he would act as if he was the king, and he even undermined Elena's mother and father; which is pretty ballsy since Elena's father is the acting Satan.
Nathan's hatred for Nina was shone through snide remarks, hateful comments, and somehow forgetting her and just being an adult version of a bully. So, during her stay with the Morningstar's, Nina had begun to question why Elena's mother Julie, and her father Greg even thought to put her in line to marry the bastard. Alas, she had no power to stop the marriage, so she just went along with it for now.
"Listen Nina, I know that you don't trust immortals too much, and I am aware that you have a very prominent disdain for Nathan, but can you please just be my maid of honor? I need someone to keep me sane during the ceremony." Elena begged while her and Nina were out dress shopping, While the blonde did have a rebellious side, and she was a bit immature, she did yearn for a family, and Nina couldn't help but to feel jealous of her friend for finding someone to love. Even though she knew full and well Nicholas didn't feel the same for Elena. Alas, Nina shook her head at her friends pleas.
Nina and Elena were best friends not because they were so alike, but instead because they were polar opposites. Elena was a perky, hyper active, irrational blonde who like to party, flirt, and fool around with anyone who she thought was cute while Nina on the other hand was a lazy, anti-social, realistic, pessimist who was a huge scaredy-cat who kept Elena in check. That fact is what made them friends, and while Elena could usually beg Nina to do almost anything, the ebony haired woman was determined to stay out of a dress, and away from Nathan.
Elena let out an exaggerated sigh before walking into the dressing room to try on yet another dress. Nina waited outside for her friend, leaning against a door of the closed dressing room across from her friends, "You know, you can be a massive pain in the ass sometimes." Elena called from inside the confined space while she got dressed.
The blonde went on with her ramblings, but Nina ignored her, her thoughts drifting to Daniel, and the sudden change from sweet to rapist. Why would he do that? What caused him to do that? More over, why did Nina bite his tongue off and eat it? All of these questions whirled around in Nina's head while she stood waiting for the bride to get out of the confines of the dressing room to show the new dress.
Her thoughts were interrupted when someone placed a firm hand on her shoulder, drawing her out of the confusing slew of thoughts. Looking to her right, Nina came face-to-face with a tall, dark-skinned man with ruby red eyes in a stiff black suit with a pair of sunglasses that sat on top of his head. "Mrs. Lancaster?" The man said calmly, his voice sounding like a bass drum, "You are to come with me, under the orders of a ruler of high status." He continued, watching Nina flinch at the last mention of her last name.
"What do you mean?" Nina asked, narrowing her eyes at the stranger while she prayed that Elena would come out of the dressing room to help her, but judging from the grunts and noises of struggle, Nina didn't feel very confident in that happening. "You will know soon enough, come with me." The dark skinned man said, grabbing Nina's thin arm in his large, bear paw before beginning to drag her away to the sunlight outside. Nina fought against his harsh grasp, trying to get the attention of the bajang who worked the counter, but he just continued to read the newspaper, as if nothing was going on.
Before Nina could scream for help, her captor clamped his hand over her mouth, as if he could read her mind or something. In an instant, the stranger set her inside of a black van, he was oddly gentle with her, as if she would break if he held her the wrong way. It was strange that he would grab her so roughly, then hold her like a baby.
Climbing in after her, the mountain of the man shut the door and knocked on a tinted window that connected the back of the vehicle to the drivers compartment. A few moments passed, but suddenly the van was moving down the road. Nina tried again to get away, to scream for help, but she was swiftly subdued by the agent who had picked her up. She was being kidnapped. She couldn't do anything to stop it either.
