Cupcakes and Cherry Blossoms

2: Unexpected

(Zane's POV)

 I seriously cannot believe them. Aphmau is going to have a stern talking to when I get done picking up these ponies. I scramble to get them, getting down on the floor and checking everywhere to be SURE that I got every last one. Once I was positive, I was about to walk back to Aph's room, but I was met with an unwelcome guest.

"Hiya Zane~Kun!" Kawaii~Chan looked down at me and waved slightly. Her hair was still wet, though she was dressed now, thank Irene. I felt my face get hot as I buried my face behind my mask. (Why was I blushing?!)

"Kawaii~Chan just wanted to apologize again for bumping into you, Zane~Kun, She's sure she startled you and is really really sorry." She looked down at her feet and twiddled her fingers around, clearly embarrassed.

I pulled my bag closer to me and furrowed my eyebrows. "You'd better not fall on me again... Or I'll-"

"OKAY MISTER GRUMPY PANTS I THINK ITS TIME FOR A CUPCAKE" Aphmau, who had come out of her room while Kawaii~Chan was talking, grabbed me by the arm and lifted me up, bringing me into her room. Hmph. She's lucky I wanted one, or else she would feel the wrath of Zane Ro'Meave!

"Ooh! Kawaii~Chan wants to show the cupcakes to Zane~Kun, Kawaii~Chan and Aphmau~Senpai worked super hard on them!" She ran into Aph's room ahead of us and grabbed the cupcakes and held them out to me. Very quickly. And may I add that no person is THIS bubbly. I mean, I like cupcakes, but I don't get THAT- I cut off my own thought as I looked down at the... Perfect pink frosting... And... Are those pony gummies? She held a row of cupcakes out in front of me, one cupcake for each of the main six, Twilight Sprinkle, Rainbow Flash, Buttershy, Applesnack, Flarity, and Pinkie Cake. (Who was obviously the superior of them all. Only she had the powers of the fabled confetti cannon) In that moment, everything was perfect. I was about to eat one of the most beautiful cupcakes I had ever laid my eyes on. I have had Aph and Kawaii~Chan's cupcakes before, they are probably the most delicious cupcakes of all time, especially Kawaii~chan's. I don't know how that girl does it, but she has a way with sweets. It was going to be perfect.

It was at that moment that the entire world crashed down upon me.

It all happened too quickly for me to have done anything, but the moment seemed to last an eternity. The cat reached over to the tray and took, of all the ones she could have taken, the only Pinkie Cake cupcake. She lifted the cupcake off of the tray with her delicate fingers and slowly brought it close to her mouth, and the closer it went, the closer we were to the end of the world.

This. Meant. War.

"What... Do you think... You're doing..." I managed to make out through gritted teeth. I felt my hands form fists and my face ran red. I squinted my eyes and glared at the girl with all the rage I could summon from within me. I stomped over to her and reached my hand up to grab the cupcake out of her hand, when I was stopped by Aphmau's hand grabbing my wrist. I took a step back and looked from Aph to Kawaii~Chan, who both looked... Terrified. Time sped up again as I took another step back and saw Kawaii~Chan slip out of the room, her eyes glossy. I sat down at the foot of Aphmau's bed, staring into space,that one single moment that couldn't have lasted more than a second replaying over and over again in my mind, the shame settling in. Shame? I'd never really been ashamed of getting angry before, especially not to a girl. Is ashamed the right word for it? The more I replayed the moment, the less ashamed I became, and the more... Angry. At myself. For getting angry. This was stupid. Aphmau turned to me and glared.

"What was that?!"

"What?"

"The whole lashing out thing! Zane, I know you're not that great at social situations, but you know better than that!"

"Can't you see I'm trying! I've never done this before, what do you expect me to do?!"

"Um, I dunno, talk to her? That seems like a normal thing to do, instead of becoming some sort of demon! Over a cupcake nonetheless! I'm gonna go check on her."
 
And with that, she left me to my stupid angry thoughts.
