Three in half weeks later, Levi and I were in SeaTac Airport in Seattle in each other's arms. I held onto him for a long time, not wanting to let go.
He kissed my hair, his grip around my shoulders never loosening. I looked up and he bent down kissing me as the short line for his flight dispersed and he had to leave.
I sighed my eyes watering. I knew I'd see him again but I didn't want him to leave me. "I think it's time for you to get going," I said softly, my voice hoarse with suppressed tears.
He looked down at me, his eyes softening as he kissed away a tear that escaped, falling down my cheek. "I don't want to but I should. I love you," he said softly, looking at me with so much sadness I almost didn't let him go. I kissed him once more before I let go. "I love you, Levi," I said as he walked away.
I watched him go through the security check, taking off his shoes, and belt. Then when he had it all on at the end and was picking up his carry on, he turned around to look at me and I blew him a kiss making him smile. And then he was gone. My country born and breed boy was off to begin his journey. All I could do was watch him go and be there to support him along the way.
I called my mom when I got home and she answered on the first ring. "Brielle, hi honey, how are you?" she asked.
I took a moment before I spoke because I was afraid of crying. I suppose it was too long because she got worried. "Sweetheart, what's wrong? Are you and Levi having problems?"
I sighed. "No, mama. It's not that at all. He just left today."
"For spring training?"
"Yeah," I said softly.
"Oh, honey, I know him leaving for a period of time is going to be hard but you have to work through it. Try and find something to occupy your time so you aren't bored or always focused on him. What's your plan for school? Why don't you focus on that? Maybe it will help."
I sighed. "Yeah, I mean I still have to call the school and see how to go about finishing and then I have to start studying for the LSAT to get into law school. I think I'll be going to summer school. But I do have a question, do you think we could set the wedding back a few months?"
"Umm, I don't know honey, honestly that'd be a late notice for your guests and even the venue. Why do you want to postpone it?"
"Well, it's not only me, Levi agrees. We both will be having very busy schedules. His season will be starting then and I'll be back in school for the summer. We might not have time. Until at least October or September."
She paused for a moment. "Brielle, honey, have you thought about finishing school through online courses? I am sure MSU offers them and you can finish that way so you won't have to go through all the stresses of having to leave Washington completely. And You and Levi's wedding is on a Saturday. Y'all can always leave the day before and get here the day of your dinner and wedding rehearsal then leave that Sunday afternoon."
"Mama, don't you think that'd be a little much. We'd have to run to catch a plan then we'd be rundown the day of the wedding, and-"
"Sweetie," she interrupted, "Maybe you should look up exactly how long it takes for a plane to get from Washington to Mississippi. It might not be as strenuous as you are tryin' to make it. Be honest, baby, are you nervous? The wedding is only four months away. Now that he's gone, this is how it'll be every year while y'all are married. Sweetie, are you afraid of being alone?"
I sighed. "No, mom, but now, I suppose I should be."
"Oh sweetie, I don't mean to upset you."
"I know you are just brutally honest and tend to say what ever is on your mind," I said with a little too much bite to it.
"Brielle, look, I know what it's like to have your man gone for a period of time. I know what it's like to be alone for a long period of time. For god's sake your daddy was in the military for a long time. He joined as soon as he turned 18, had them pay for his college education then still stayed. He had plenty of tours during desert storm and even a few for Iraq, you know this. But, let me tell you honey, it isn't the end of the world and unlike me, you future husband will be back home."
I blinked back tears wonder why the hell I was so...moody lately. "You're right," I whispered.
"Damn right, I'm right," my mom said triumphantly making me laugh.
"What's so funny?" she asked amusement in her voice.
"Nothing, mama, it's just...I've never heard you cuss before."
She laughed. "Well you're a woman now so I have no need to filter my language." I laughed even harder.
Later that night after my warm shower, I laid in bed snuggled deeply into the fluffy sheets of our bed. I was laying on Levi side my face turned to the fireplace in our room as I stared into it again. It seems to be all I do now.
This house seems so empty with out him in it, just like the apartment did when he left to come here to get an agent. I was in his sweats again and as far as I concerned I might as well have him wear a few pairs in the nights before he leaves just so his musk smell will be on them. I pulled his huge sweater up to my nose and closed my eyes. Just before I was able to sleep my phone rang.
Jumping up I ran over to the love seat in our room to answer the FaceTime call.
"Levi!" I said breathless smiling at him thought the phone.
He laughed his deep chuckle causing me to smile wider. "Hey, baby, sorry I didn't call earlier. As soon as I got off the plane I got caught up and just finally got the chance to call. You weren't asleep, were you?"
I smiled. "Absolutely not."
He laughed. "Yeah, you sound like you're lyin'."
I laughed. "Okay, I wasn't asleep but almost did fall asleep. How'd everything go?"
"Well nothing's started yet, I don't start until tomorrow and it's only the catcher and pitchers who start early. Position players come a week later."
"Oh, okay. Have you met any of the other pitchers."
"Not yet, I will tomorrow." I yawned a little, before laying He laughed. "babe, your tired. We can talk tomorrow and I'll have so much more to tell you."
I sighed tiredly. "I don't want you to hang up. The house is so empty without you here. I have literally decided to have you wear a bunch of sweats weeks in advance just so they smell like you. So I can wear them whenever you leave."
He grinned. "Babe, that's.....a little weird." I laughed and rolled my eyes.
"Whatever. Even if your not here I want your scent near me. It helps when I see you through FaceTime but it just isn't the same when your physically not here. I mean honestly, I'm wearing one of your sweat shirts right now and tomorrow I'm gonna wear one of your sweat pants. I'm alternating."
He laughed then his face slowly changed, his eyes stared deeply into my eyes with such ferocity that I squirmed feeling very hot under his gaze. "What are you wearing under it."
I smirked tiredly. "What makes you think I'm wearing anything under it," I said using what he'd said before in a different context.
He raised an eyebrow. "Lemme see," he said his voice becoming husky and lowering.
I grinned. "hmmm, I donno."
He frowned slightly. "Baby, come on," he whined, "give me a little something."
I laughed. "Okay, okay." I sat up and put my phone at an angle on the fireplace so my body was lit by the fire. I looked down coyly using one hand to hold the hem of the sweater and put the nail of my index finger on my other hand between my teeth.
Slowly, I pulled his big sweater up, glancing at him through my short lashes. First, it was the middle of my thigh showing as I heard his breathing quicken then when the entire thing showed I shut my down pulling the entire shirt down.
"Baby, you're being a tease," he groaned and I smiled.
"Patience," I chastised playfully, grinning at him before slowly pulling it back up, this time bringing it up all the way to my navel. I didn't even hear him breathing anymore because now he could see the entire lower half of my body...without underwear.
"Damn," he breathed and I softly laughed as I continued to pull my shirt all the way up and over my head...completely naked. As I stood before him through the phone I knew exactly what I wanted to do for him when he got home. When I saw his eyes gloss over then soften, I knew exactly why he wanted me to give him a little show. Only away from each other for a couple of hours and we were both sexual frustrated him more than I in this case...for now.
I smirked at him my hands softly on my waist. "How'd I do?" He smirked, his sated smirked the one that made me want him to go at it again after sex.
"You know you never disappoint," he replied and I smiled.
"Good." I bent down to pick up his sweater when he voiced his objection.
"Don't, I like seeing you naked."
I laughed rolling my eyes. "Of course you do but I'm going to be cold on this floor."
He grinned. "Get under the covers then."
I smiled. "Fine, fine."
I picked up his sweater then walked over to the mantle to collect my phone. I set his sweater on the seat neatly before going to the bed and snuggling under the covers with the phone close to my face. As soon as my head hit the pillow my exhaustion hit me a million times more and Levi could tell.
"Baby, you should sleep. I promise you I won't hang up, okay. I can't promise I'll be here in the morning because of practice but I can promise we'll still be connected in the morning."
Tiredly, I sighed. "Okay," I said fixing the phone on the pillow beside me so that Levi would still be looking at me. Smiling, I blew him a tired kiss as he smiled at me. "I love you, Levi. Good night, baby," I half asleep.
"I love you too, baby," was the last thing I heard him say before I fell asleep.
I woke up the next morning earlier than I thought and Levi hadn't gotten up. I looked over at my digital clock and saw that it was just after five. For the first time he was sleeping and even me moving wouldn't wake him. With my head on my pillow, I laid silently watching him sleep.
His mouth was open slightly as he slept and each time he took in a breath his nose flared slightly. He looked so peaceful the little bit of sunrise coming through his window made him look almost...angelic. Then his alarm went off and he groggily woke. His eyes slowly opened, fluttering a bit before he gave me a lopsided grin making me melt.
"Good morning, baby," he said stretching out on his bed before picking up his phone and sitting up in the bed.
I smiled. "Good morning, hon." He grinned before hitting the off button to the still blaring alarm. "What time does your practice start?"
Yawning, he sat up putting his phone in front of his face before answering. "9:30."
"Really? How long is it for?"
"A while," he answered chuckling. "I think until four this afternoon."
"Wow that's long."
He shrugged. "Not really we'll probably pitch for maybe two, maybe three hours and the rest will be like strength training and tweaking of our pitches to make them better."
"Why was your alarm set so early then? It's 5:10."
He smiled. "I was gonna go for a run then get breakfast before practice and then from there it takes about five maybe ten minutes to get to the field from my hotel." I nodded.
"Alright, well, at least you have a general idea of your routine for today," I joked and his smile just widened.
"What about you?" he asked. "What do you plan on doing today?"
I sighed heavily when I thought about what I needed to do. "Call MSU and see what my options are for finishing school. See how our schedules work for our wedding and hope we don't have to push it back and then look for more furniture for this house as well as buy groceries."
"Well, damn, baby...looks like you've got your work cut out for you."
I sighed nodding as I looked out the window of our room. "Yeah...I most certainly do. And it feels as if I have absolutely no time to finish it all."
"I wish I could pull you into my arms right now," he said softly, "and comfort you letting you know you can and do have more than enough time to do every bit of that today."
I smiled. "Just hearing it is enough. I love you."
His entire face softened as those words left my mouth. "I love you too, baby. Very much. And hearing you say that every time is always the perfect start and ending to any day and any conversation we have."
I smiled as we silently looked at each other as I took in just how handsome, loving and romantic my man truly is. He makes me feel as if I can conquer the world, as long as he's with me...I can.
