Chapter 2

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I‘m like halfway home, can you believe that? Or more than halfway.” Excitement filled Riley’s voice. It’s hard to believe it’s been about a month since I’ve seen him.
“I know, and I can‘t wait, it‘s been too lonely at my house, so I came to my moms just in case my water breaks, or something.” I opened the fridge as I shouldered my phone.
“And it better not. Do you here me baby? Wait for Uncle Riley to get back first.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at how cute that sounded.
“So where is Miles, by the way?”
“Umm, ” I bent over to see chocolate pudding cups in the way back. “ working like usually, you know.”
“Damn, no social life, whatsoever.”
“Riley.” I snatched the one pudding, and shut the fridge with my foot.
“Sorry, but it‘s true, and you know it. I need to take him to a club.”
“I guess, but, ” I struggle with the lid for a second, until it peeled back. “it‘s his choice on what he wants to do with his life, and if he wants to work his ass off, then let him.”
“He‘s working it for you, and you know it.” A hint of amusement was in his voice.
“No, he‘s not.”
“You‘re eating pudding, aren‘t you?” I almost laughed, he knows me too well.
“Possibly… how did you know?” I grabbed a plastic spoon and set it on the table for after this phone call.
“You always pause when you‘re trying to peel back the lid. Anyways…” I heard his turn signal in the background.
I sighed. “I‘m pregnant.”
“So, it‘s alright for you to eat again,…” this time he paused. “ after dinner?”
“Duh.” I smiled. “Anyway, Miles is working for Miles, not me.”
“I guess, wasn‘t he thinking of moving in with you?”
“Possibly, but he was also looking into another apartment, something bigger than what he has now, you know? I just suggested to him that it would be cheaper to move in with me.”
“So I know who the favorite is now. You never offered me to move in with you.” he whined.
I couldn’t help but laugh at that one. “You live with your mom.” I teased.
There was a long pause, and I knew I got him on this one. He finally answered. “She‘s the only women that loves me.” He fake sniffled at he end.
“You sir, just need to come home, and fast.”
“Mama, I‘m comin‘ home.” he sang.
“Just get home fast. I want to hear about your trip.”
Silence filled the moment for a little while. “Really?” It sounded like he hesitated.
“Of course! Why wouldn‘t I?”
I heard him clear his throat. “Because of…” He paused again.
Him, and Miles were always avoiding saying his name. I sighed in frustration. “Quit avoiding his name like it‘s a plague.”
“Fine, fine.” I heard his turn signal again. “I‘ll call you tomorrow morning, okay? Just to make sure your water didn‘t break, or something. I want to be there for everything, and I know Miles does too.”
