Chapter 4- You Found Me
Heather collapsed on the couch next to me with a heavy sigh. She rested her head back against the couch just as I did and we laid there in complete silence and comfort. Unfortunately for us, that silence only lasted a few seconds.
“Mommy!”
Thundering footsteps reached our ears and got closer and closer. I mentally sighed. All we’d wanted to do was at least get a few good minutes of relaxation from the long day of shopping walking around, but the job of being a mother was never over. I was still ecstatic to know that my little girl was here and that I could see her. I missed her while I was out. And yet Heather and I groaned at the same time before looking at each other.
“They’re here,” Heather almost whispered in a high pitched voice. I snorted and sat up from where I was relaxing to see two little kids running towards us with beaming smiles on their faces.
“Hey! How’s it going, kid?” I asked Rosie as she ran into my awaiting arms.
“Good! Look at what Uncle Danny got me!” she squealed as she pushed me away from her and she pointed to the dress that she had on. It was a beautiful yellow dress that had skinny straps at the shoulders and daisies all over it with pink in the middle of the flowers.
“That’s pretty, honey! Uncle Danny didn’t have to do that! Where is he anyways?” I asked her.
“He’s coming!” she cried.
“Hey, kiddo!” Heather said to Aiden.
“Aunty Heather!” Aiden exclaimed.
“Come on, Aiden! Let’s go play!” Rosie said and tugged on Aiden's hand and they went running off together.
“They are so cute together,” I said as I watched them. I leaned back in the couch again with Heather and she nodded.
“Just like a couple of other people I know.”
I slowly twisted my head around to face her while giving her my best death glare. She smiled innocently at me.
“Don’t even start,” I warned as I pointed a finger at her.
“You two are finally back! Great! Now you can relieve me from my duties of babysitting those little monsters,” Daniel said happily as he waltzed into the living room. I raised my eyebrows up at him as he plopped down on the smaller couch across from the one we were sitting on. I looked over at Heather to see her expression mirrored mine.
“Oh please, it’s not like you don’t love watching them anyways,” she said with a wave of her hand. Daniel shrugged.
“This is true.”
“Hey, Daniel, thanks for buying Rosie that dress. You didn’t have to,” I said. He glanced over at me as he reached for the TV remote.
“It’s no big deal. That’s what an uncle’s supposed to do. Spoil the children rotten and then send them back to their parents hyped up on sugar with everything they’ve wanted so that their parents can deal with the mess you’ve made them become,” he said proudly. I frowned at him as he turned on the TV and began flipping through the channels.
“Why do I leave my child with you?” I asked. He didn’t even look over as he shrugged.
“And why do I bring my child over here to leave him with you?” Heather added. Daniel shrugged again.
